The Sims 3 Ambitions Inventor Career / Skill Guide
One of the best, if not the best new profession that comes with The Sims 3 Ambitions is the Inventor career. Depending on the traits your sim has, this may or may not be available from the computer or newspaper, but it is possible to access if you purchase a Scraptronic Workbench and register as self employed.
As an inventor, you'll spend your days hunting through scrap heaps and then carrying your scrap home and working with it to create new inventions including toys, wind up toys, widgets, and so, so much more. Inventors support themselves by selling their inventions at the consignment store (or by using cheats to top up household funds when necessary.)
Though the inventor career may not seem all that glamorous at first, it's worth sticking with for the inventions you build past level 6 or so. The miner, for instance, is a contraption capable of mining your own back yard for precious gems. (This may annoy your neighbors if you do it at midnight, but the most they'll do is stand around and whine, so let them! It's not worth missing out on those precious gems just to be friendly with your short sighted neighbors.)
Also on the plus side of the inventor career is the ability to detonate pretty much anything as you work on your levels. Has your toilet broken for the nth time? Don't replace it! Detonate it and use the scrap for your nefarious inventions. If you detonate things in town or in other people's homes, be prepared for a backlash however. Sims are weird about having public or private property detonated for scrap.
The inventor profession leads to a myriad of useful inventions (like the floor hygenator, that hygenates the floor with various scents) and decorative objects that will be snapped up by visitors to the consignment store, assuming you can work out how to sell things there. (Hint: Click the 'buy' tab in order to sell things. It's as clear as mud!)
The pinnacle of the inventing career is sheer bliss. From the lofty heights of the highest levels of the skill you can learn to make a time machine and travel in time. Travel! In time!
But there's still more to discover in the inventing skill chain. Though there is nothing you can do on your own as an inventor anymore, a mysterious phone call soon arrives. (If phone calls can do things like arrive) and you are set on a quest chain to the ULTIMATE INVENTION.
