The Time Traveler's Wife Review Summary
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is the best book that I read in 2007. How do I categorize it? Is it science fiction? Is it a romance? Well, it involves time travel, so it must be science fiction. At the same time, it is one of the most touching love stories I have ever read. Can you tell that I highly recommend this book?
The Time Traveler's Wife Story
Henry is a librarian with a strange medical disorder called Chrono Displacement Disorder. This simply means that he can travel in time. But Henry has no control over his time travel. It can occur at anytime, anywhere. It is actually time travel that leads him to his wife, Clare the artist. Did I mention that Clare was only six years old when she first met Henry? The story shows us the story from their first meeting and how they keep reconnecting with each other throughout time. Although, it is not done in that precise order.

Why I Like The Time Traveler's Wife
The story of The Time Traveler's Wife is a bit confusing when you first start reading the book. The point of view goes back and forth between Henry, the time traveler, and Clare, his wife. After you get used to the concept and rules of Henry's time traveling, it becomes a very enjoyable read.
Besides the excellent story line itself, The Time Traveler's Wife has some of the best character development of any book I've read. There are no flat characters in The Time Traveler's Wife. Niffenegger has created vibrant, believable characters that you can't help but care about what happens to them. The Time Traveler's Wife Isn't Perfect
As with all books, even The Time Traveler's Wife isn't perfect. The first half of the book is much better than the rest. As I was reading The Time Traveler's Wife in the beginning, I was astounded by its unique quality. Then it seemed to become a rollercoaster hurtling down into the dark tunnel. It's as if the author suddenly got in a hurry to get to the ending.

Even if you're not a romance fan, don't miss the chance to read this excellent book. It is romantic without being sappy and cheesy. If you read The Time Traveler's Wife, you will not soon forget the story or its characters. It isn't easy to imagine that The Time Traveler's Wife isn't Audrey Niffenegger's first book. I certainly look forward to reading more by this excellent author.
If you enjoyed the book, The Time Traveler's Wife is also being made into a movie as well.PrintShare it! — Rate it: up down flag this hub
The Time Traveler's Wife Comments
I totally agree. This is one of my favorite books and I keep a copy on my bookshelf so I can read it again and again. Very nice summary of the story. I can't wait to see if the movie will do the book justice.
cgull8m, you won't regret it. I definitely recommend both. Usually the movie version is so different than the book.
Rhym O-Reison, I'm very curious as to how they are going to handle the movie, too. I just don't think The Time Traveler's Wife movie will be nearly as good as the book. But the movies never are!
I agree - this is one of the books my husband and I have been recommending to everyone! It's a great read and hard to put down. The movie won't be able to measure up.
I've read this book in 2007 too and I loved it. The content and characters keep your attention long after the book is finished. Just to think that it was the first book of this author! Right now I am re-reading it, as the movie is going to be released in August this year (2009). I liked the trailer of the movie, the actors suit to the book images, to my mind.
