What is an RSS feed?

RSS feed is short for "Really Simple Syndication" and sometimes "Rich Site Summary", I also hear it can mean, "I'm ready for some stories". It is a format used for delivering regularly changing web content, such as a hub or a blog. When a person visits a site, if there is a orange RSS feed it will be in the right hand side of the tool bar. Your RSS feed shows your most current stories. An example of what my RSS feed looks like is http://hubpages.com/author/kmackey32/latest/?rss. To Find your RSS feed, click on your profile and the RSS feed will be located under your picture. I right click on it and scroll down to properties. Your RSS address will open.

Anyone on the internet that publishes can publish a feed and it is very easy. You do not have to install a program if you do not want to. Some of the sites I choose to submit my feed too are My Yahoo, Google Personalized Homepage, My MSN or My AOL. These sites are all free.

My Yahoo

My Yahoo is one of the worlds most used feed readers. Once you are at the site click on Add Content on the left hand side. Look to the bottom of the box, you will see an add RSS feed, click on it. I always copy and paste my RSS feed inside the box. Then click I'm done. That's it, now wasn't that easy?

Google Personalized home page

On Igoogle, scroll down the page. On the left hand site you will see a link Igoogle for feed owners. Choose your content which is RSS or Atom feed. Choose how many feeds your promoting, choose your button style and,  enter your feed in the space provided and finally click on Generate HTML.

Many other sites are offering for a publisher to submit there RSS feed. Some sites include:

I think I should start using RSS as well. Until now I just refused to learn much about it or to use them for my online endeavours. Thank you for publishing this summary.

I think I must be thick! you say 'To Find your RSS feed, click on your profile and the RSS feed will be located under your picture. I right click on it and scroll down to properties. Your RSS address will open.' I don't actually see it right under my pic, a little below that is a rss link, I tried right clicking it and the menu just gives me options on how to open the link but not properties. I have tried submitting the link with yahoo after clicking it yahoo says its invallid, to just copy link on the right click is the same url and not accepted by yahoo, maybe its late but I am not getting it :)

That's a really interesting hub, thanks.

Can I ask a couple of questions?

1. Does this give backlinks to your hubs?

2. You say you "always" cut and paste your feed to yahoo. Does that mean you have to keep doing it?
