Don't eat in ugliness

So now that I'm getting close to graduating college I have to start thinking about my future home and all things related to it. Naturally I haven't starting considering rent and payments and utilities and little things like that: I've been focusing on decorating. Colours, styles, materials, all that.

I've always sort of hated the colour of the kitchen at my parents' house. It's a bright yellow and every time we ate it was a little sickening. My mom always said that she liked earthy colours, but that yellow was not right.

It's important to find the right colour because paint's expensive! Here are some tips.

Ouch.

What color is your kitchen?

  • White
  • Yellow
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Red
  • Brown/Tan/Beige

How to find the right colour

Get an idea of the colour you want.

Get fabric swatches or paper of the different colours of the rainbows. Tape the colours in a row on the same wall. Try all the different walls, not just one. Each area of your room will give the colours a different feel to the room.

Meanings of colours:

Red: Stimulating/Increases Appetite

Orange: Stimulating/ Increases Appetite

Yellow: Stimulating/ Increases Appetite

Green: Relaxing/Balance

Blue: Relaxing/Decreases Appetite

Indigo: Relaxing/Decreases Appetite

Violet: Balance/Relaxing/Decreases Appetite

The colour should be relaxing because stimulating colours increase your appetite and you'll get fat!!!

Narrow down what you want.

Search for a whole bunch of different hues in that colour. Then tape them to the walls. Narrow down the choices and check them out throughout the day, when lights are different. Or get the little paint-samplers and splash a bit on the wall.

That's funny...I read that McDonald's uses red and Burger King orange because they subconsciously encourage people to eat more. Come to think of it, Subway is a bright yellow...
