Tips for Celebrating a Single Valentine's Day
Who says you need to be in a relationship to celebrate Valentine's Day? After all, it's a day for LOVE, not just romance. Even if you've got the blues on Valentine's, you can still do something to cheer yourself up and celebrate. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Send a card
Do you know a child who loves getting mail? Send them a Valentine's card. They're sure to love it, and probably treasure it for years. Who knows, you may get one back.
Nursing homes, homeless shelters, hospitals, and other organizations also accept Valentine's cards. You can send some to troops overseas through the Hugs for Soldiers program, which accepts cards through Valentine's Day itself.
Just remember if you are sending pre-made "children's" or handmade Valentine's cards, you need to put them in a standard-sized envelope. Otherwise, the postal service will not send them.
Wear something fun
You don't need to be a kid to wear something funky and fun on Valentine's day! Break out that heart pin, tie, or even just a red & white shirt. Go as classy or as crazy as you want. Many stores have Valentine's-themed apparel, or find some online.
Do something for yourself
Get yourself a present. It can be as simple as a box of candy, or as elaborate as taking yourself to a movie or out for dinner. Do something special for yourself. That way, you'll feel that you celebrated, and it will help the blues go away, especially if you go out of the house to do something. There is nothing wrong with a single guy or single gal going out to a movie or a dinner at a restaurant by themselves; people do that all the time. Just enjoy it and don't worry what others may be thinking. They're probably thinking that it's nice to see someone out enjoying themselves, and wishing they were brave enough to do the same!
Get together with friends
Have a movie night at home or a party with other single friends. Don't make it a "group dating" event. Just hang out with the people who matter to you and who appreciate you. "Singles events" are overrated, and too much pressure. Just let loose at home or at the club with your buddies or "the girls" (or both).
