Toddler Friendly Holidays in Newquay

Updated on April 7, 2013

Toddler Friendly Holidays in Newquay

If you've got a toddler, then you already know that you need to keep them amused, happy and entertained, or nobody's going to enjoy their holiday!  Toddler friendly holidays are being enjoyed by thousands of parents wanting a relaxing break in Newquay.

What you choose to do will be weather dependent - it won't be toddler friendly anywhere if you're sitting on a beach in a force 9 gale - but there are plenty of things to do for toddlers inside and out in Newquay.

Firstly, before I move onto other activities, there are the fabulously sandy beaches.  With over 7 miles of soft, golden sand, you can find a great spot any time - and if it's windy you can find a beach that protects you from the wind because the cliffs are high and there are beaches facing in several directions.  If you're not sure which way the wind's blowing on a beach, check out the lifeguard's red and yellow flags, see which way they're blowing.

If you've got a toddler with you, one gauge of whether a beach is toddler friendly is facilities.  If you've got a laden buggy, you'll probably be looking for easy access, public conveniences and an ice-cream kiosk!  Beaches in Newquay that meet this toddler friendly criteria are: Watergate Bay, Porth Beach, Great Western Beach, Towan Beach, Harbour Beach (although no ice-creams) and Fistral (North Beach).  All have easy road access, public conveniences and ice-creams.

Toddler Friendly Venues

One of the problems you might find with a toddler on holiday is finding places where kids go free.  Often a toddler has no awareness or interest in where you've taken them - perhaps you're there for yourself, or for their older sibling,  The toddler's minding his own business, following you around - and it can be quite frustrating if you've had to pay for this privilege!

There are quite a lot of places where you can go that are toddler friendly - and yet you're not paying an entry fee for your toddler.

Dairyland Farmworld

Dairyland Farmworld is a couple of miles inland from Newquay, on the road to St Austell. There's lots to see and do, including watching cows being milked, nature trails, outdoor space to run about, a cafe and small shop - and a great petting zoo.

Under 3's go free

Also - your ticket is valid for a week, meaning you can visit and re-visit as often as you like for a full 7 days, making it a great budget buster if you've got a toddler as they can go and pet the cute animals in the petting zoo every day, or have a great run around.

There's plenty of fun for other members of the family too.

Eden Project

The Eden Project's a favourite with families who have kids of any age.  As a toddler friendly venue it's cost effective too.  Under 5's go free, but if you arrive by public transport, or if you walk or cycle, then all kids go free.

Watch out when you buy your ticket - by ticking the "Gift Aid" box, or asking about Gift Aid, your ticket will automatically be turned into an annual pass, so you can visit for free as many times as you want for a full 12 months.

The Eden Project's getting larger by the day, with new areas being opened up and new exhibits and plants to see.  Billed as the 8th wonder of the world, it's great fun for the whole family.

Once you've parked, the buses are free to take you down to the visitor centre - and from there there's a free land train down to the bottom of the open pit.

Callestick Ice Cream

Callestick Farm

At Callestick Farm you can watch them making ice-cream; they've put in a special viewing gallery so you can look right into the ice-cream factory and watch real ice-cream being made. There's also a small shop and cafe on site. A great way to spend an hour when it's raining. And it's free. (Note: during winter months it's only open Wednesday to Saturday)

Meet the Meercats at Newquay Zoo

Newquay Zoo

Under 3s go FREE at Newquay Zoo - where there's lots to see and do for all the family. It's a great toddler friendly venue for your holiday in Newquay.

Outside of the zoo, there's plenty of other activities too to check out. Look around the gardens, have a game of pitch and putt, or perhaps walk round the corner to Newquay Boating Lake to watch the wildlife, or even hire a rowing boat or pedalo.

You can also meet the meercats at Newquay Zoo - and probably buy quite a few meercat souvenirs in the zoo shop afterwards!

Meercats are great, whatever your age.

Blue Reef Aquarium

You'll find the Blue Reef Aquarium down at the edge of Towan Beach - that's the one where The Island is.  Blue Reef Aquarium is free for under 3s.

The aquarium is baby-friendly too with changing facilities, it's accessible for push-chairs, and multi-level displays mean even the smallest family members get a great view.
