Top 10 Best Selling Energy Drinks

Updated on December 3, 2012

These are the top 10 best selling energy drinks in the country folks!

Love 'em or hate 'em, a whole generation is growing up around energy drinks that give your body a boost - a mix of a sugar rush compounded with a high caffeine dosage.

I'm not knocking them. They have a place, and I bet they are just great for students struggling to find the energy to work through the night to finish off assignments, or for athletes flagging after a long training session.

I would just warn caution with them. Be very careful how much of them you drink on a daily basis and I certainly discourage children from drinking them.

That asides, energy drinks are here to stay, so why not enjoy them.

With a massive 160mgs of caffeine in each 16oz can, you might want to be very careful how many of those you drink in a day.

The Monster Energy Drink could turn you into a monster if you drink too many!

Your daily recommended allowance of caffeine is only 200mgs, so if you drink tea, coffee or Coco-Cola as well as just 1 can of Monster Energy, you will go well over a safe level.

Having said that, this might be just the thing for either those folk who skip breakfast or those who work nights as well as days, as you will get quite an energy boost from Monster energy drinks.

Red Bull Energy Drink, 8.4-Ounce Cans (Pack of 24)

I'm not selling you this. This is only a list of the top selling energy drinks, and Red Bull comes in at number 2.

I don't care what benefits the manufacturer says it has. But any high sugar, high caffeine drink will give your whole system a boost just when your energy levels are flagging.

I can drink just one of those cans at a time, and yes you do get a boost, but any more than one and someone is peeling me off the ceiling - not that they send you high, they don't - they just give you a massive caffeine boost that is normally reserved for several black coffees.

Careful how you go - the jitters are horrible.

5-Hour Energy

5-Hour Energy

I haven't tried 5-Hour Energy but it's a top seller in the US. Having read it's label I am not surprised. This seems to be the healthy alternative to the above drinks though quite how it works - giving an energy boost - remains a mystery.

It contains the same caffeine as a strong cup of coffee, and B vitamins, amino acids and nutrients. Not an -ate, -ine or -ide in sight at first glance, then you read down and see there are a few there after all.

Best of all it contains very little sugar - in fact the manufacturer says there is no added sugar.

Testers - sorry reviewers - say it works very well to give that lift where needed - not an energy boost as such, but takes tiredness away so can't be all bad.

I could do with a 5-Hour Energy drink myself just now, but seeing as there aren't any here, I will just have to have a cup of coffee!

Power Horse Energy Drink, 8.45-Ounce Cans (Pack of 24)

Coming from Austria, this drink is very similar to Red Bull, with its added sugar, caffeine, taurine and loads of other -ines.

According to reviewers, it tastes very similar too but at half the price!

Some even reckon it gives a better energy boost too.

But the important think I wanted to know is, does it taste as well with vodka?

Power Horse Energy Drinks are well worth a try if you find that you are spending all your spare money on Red Bull.

Hansen's Energy Pro, Citrus, 8.3-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)

The reviewers love the Hansen Energy Drink which is described as being light and with a citrus tang that makes it really pleasant to drink.

They say it wakes your brain cells up and not just your body, so is great for people struggling to study after a hard day.

Its high sugar, high caffeine with loads of chemicals, but also contains Ginkgo Biloba which none of the other energy drinks have.

The general consensus is that this is a great newcomer, and that people are glad to find it on Amazon as it is hard to find in the shops.

Cocaine Energy Drink - As Strong As 3 Red Bulls - 6 Pk

Well their advertising name tells you a lot of about this drink, which is just as well because Amazon doesn't tell you anything about it - not what's in it, its ingredients, how it works, nothing.

I'm almost frightened to research it on the web in case I get sent to some dubious warez-type site that will load my computer with viruses!

The strength of 3 red Bulls will ensure I never go near it, and one or two reviewers more or less suggestsed it blows your head off.

Each to their own I suppose.

But I do think this a bad name for a product.

Rockstar Energy Drink, 16 Ounce Can (Pack of 24)

Rockstar Energy Drink

Uh-oh!

This version of Rockstar is their new energy drink with only 10% real juice as opposed to previous versions that had initially 70% which later dropped to 50%.

People aren't happy.

Shame because this is the low-carb version of the drink which should be healthier as well as giving an energy boost.

I think the thing with this drink is that if you regularly drank the old version, you may not like this one as much, yet people who have tried this as their first taste of Rockstar rave about it and say it tastes great!
