Top 5 TV Shows
It's pretty common nowadays to hear people (parents, mostly) claim that TV is a bad thing. They run around telling people to limit their kids to 1 hour of television per day, and limit it even further by saying that one hour ought to be something dull and educational. All I can say is that these people clearly haven't discovered the inspirational side of TV; find something that really reaches out to you, and you will get far more out of TV than an hour of vegetation. Ranting aside, the following TV shows are not for children, obviously. They're for adults, and some of them are only for open-minded adults. Some of these shows are on network TV, and some are on HBO -- which means there will be a certain degree of skin showing. If you can't deal, don't watch!! But if you don't, you'll be missing something fabulous, I'm telling you.
House M.D.
Being in its 5th season, I can't imagine anyone not knowing who House is. But if you don't, you're in for a fantastic surprise. I've been watching it for a long time now, and to be honest, last season was getting a bit predictable toward the end and the beginning of this season wasn't a whole lot better.
But!! There has been a massive storyline change in the last 2 weeks and oooooeeeee this is back at the top of my TV list. House and Cuddy are finally, FINALLY going to get together. I hope; cos we've been waiting 5 years for this to happen! Go on, watch it!! Airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Fox.
Boston Legal
Another show currently in its 5th season, this show just gets better and better. The core cast are James Spader, William Shatner and Candace Bergen, but there are a few other actors who appear regularly. The best thing about this show is how real it is, and how much political and social commentary actually takes place in the dialogue itself. The writers are not only clever, but amazingly adept at putting serious topics into a format the average American (or other national) can understand; which is fairly impressive, given the scope of some of the topics. And...... it's funny as hell. I laugh out loud when watching this -- it's just too funny! Airs on ABC Mondays at 10pm.
Secret Diary of a Call Girl
This is a British show starring Billie Piper, whom I adore. She's a brilliant actress, and I must give the woman credit for getting her girls out on national TV in nearly every episode. This show is based on the allegedly true experiences of call-girl blogger, and whether or not the premise is true, the show is fantastic and funny and I love the way it's filmed. And it really doesn't hurt that Billie Piper's best friend (Ben) is a very, very, very hot actor whom I would love to very naughty things with. Why she doesn't just get together with him and hang up her thong, I have no idea. Airs Mondays at 1030pm on Showtime.
Heroes
Ok.. Heroes is in its 3rd season. The first season was top class -- loved every minute of it, couldn't get enough. The 2nd season was pretty lame, and I wasn't sure if I'd continue with the 3rd. But! The 3rd season has turned out to be so absolutely fantastic that it's back on my TV list, and I am really loving it. There are new characters, new abilities, some shockingly unexpected twists and turns, and, perhaps the best new couple of TV land..... Sylar and Elle!
True Blood
This is a new show that I wrote about a little while ago when it first premiered. It's a vampire story, but don't let that put you off -- this one is good. It's action packed, lots of twists and turns, and lots more than just vampires. You've got telepaths, shapeshifters and who knows what else is going to show up next? At first, I was digging the chemistry between Bill (the vampire) and Sookie... but now everything has picked up pace to the point that there is always something going on with someone that you will want to see. The effects are fantastic, the colors amazing, the story lines interesting. It's not for Puritans, however -- lots o nekkidness in this show, so if you're not into that, don't watch! Airs Sunday at 9pm on HBO.
