Since I am regularly called upon to write book reviews, it will not be too much trouble for me to give you guys a regular update on the top ten childrens books out there!
The books I choose might not have been published in the same month, they are merely my own choice from the fantastic range of childrens books out there!
So without further ado, here are my top ten childrens book!
Top Ten Childrens books
10) Henderson's Boys - The Escape
Henderson's boys is an imaginative, fast paced, childrens story. The author, Robert Muchamore has been criticized for his simple use of the English language, and simple plots. Despite this I find his children's books a great smooth read, and they are ideal children's books for those children which are struggling with their reading.
The Escape is set in the middle of World War Two as the French civilians are running for their lives. Amid this chaos two British children are on the run, and the allied forces are about to find out just how important children can be in winning the war.
While the Escape retains Muchamore's simple style, it has a fast paced paced feel, and plenty of comical interludes to ensure the readers attention stays fixated on the story.
This might not be one of the best children's stories out there, but it is a good, solid, entertaining read. For this reason, The Escape is number ten in my top ten childrens books!
Buy Children's Books Harry Potter
9) Harry Potter Bookset
Harry Potter is not one of my favorite lines of novels, but it is definitely a good series. The books have been incredibly influential the world over, spawning films and merchandise . The Harry Potter Bookset is a great collection of books about the famous boy wizard, Harry Potter. If you buy the box set you could save a lot of money from these entertaining children's books!
The Harry Potter range is one of the top ten children's books because of it's imagination, its influence, and its entertainment value. While I was tempted to place this at number one, for these reasons alone, I feel as if there are plenty of other books out there that are just as well deserving, but not the fame to back them up.
Also, I much prefer the earlier Harry Potter books, which are now fairly old. They are well worth a read, but I warn you they can be addictive, so you may as well buy the entire Harry Potter Set in advance!
While the Harry Potter series is a great read, there are plenty of books which show just as much imagination and inginuity. I would easily recommend buying the Harry Potter Booksets, there is a great review here on Harry Potter booksets!
8) Dog Days - Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Dog Days is the fourth in the series of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a fantastic series following the life of Greg Heffley, a self confessed indoor person, and a young boy with an overbearing mother. The mother of Greg is determined to get him out and about, despite his wishes to sit in, draw the blinds, and play video games.
This series is written by a games developer, so I feel as if this book is semi autobiographical. This gives the book an extra edge of interest and detail, which makes this read all the more entertaining.
I would definitely recommend this top ten childrens book to anyone looking for an entertaining read, child or adult alike!
7) The Last Olympian
The Last Olympian is another book from The Olympians series of books. Following on from the imaginative series, the book follows the demi-gods in their battle against the titans, while an evil time Lord called Kronos threatens to take over New York City.
This action packed imaginative novel follows the heroic Percy Jackson on his mission to save the world. This final book follows the intricate path that the preceding books have been leading up to, finishing with a final epic battle which rages through the streets of Manhattan
The Last Olympian is an amazingly entertaining read, once you have read the preceeding books, you need to read this fantastic tale as a 16 year old saves the world.
6) The Graveyard Book
Neil Gaiman does not disappoint in his latest novel, The Graveyard Book. This humorous novel follows in Gaiman's true clever, funny, writing style. The clover plot lone is held steady by this, and when you begin to read this fantastic children's book, you will find yourself unable to put it down.
The Graveyard Book follows a young boy called Nobody Owens, or Bod to his friends. Bod was raised in a Graveyard by the spirits who occupy it. If this was not enough, the plot thickens as The killer who murdered Bod's family awaits him if he leaves the cemetery.
The Graveyard book easily makes it in to my top ten children's books with its witty style and funny, yet intriguing plot, you will have a thrilling read from start to finish.
5) Hatchet
Hatchet is another book which was released several years ago, and has been my favorite children's book since I first read it. It's a strong mix of good writing, knowledge, and excitement.
Hatchet is based around a young boy called Brian Robeson. After his parents divorce he flies up to his fathers house, but on the flight problems occur, leaving him stranded in the wilderness to fend for himself!
In Hatchet the solutions Brian comes up with are eloquent, and the trials faced are realistic enough to be terrifying. The constant shots of fear injected in to the novel are based on real problems which can affect those lost in the woods.
I would recommend this children's adventure book to anyone, and it easily makes it in to my top ten children's books!
4) The Little Prince
The Little Prince is a book which was introduced to me by my American Fiancée. It's a surprisingly in depth book regarding human nature, and is a delightful tale of the little princes adventures as he travels from planet to planet.
The Little Prince is originally French, but it's witty, entertaining, storyline is fun for adults and children alike. The translation loses nothing of the imagery in the original prose, it retains the same magic that was present in the original script.
For pure and simple entertainment this makes it to my top ten children's books!
3) Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret
There are a lot of chick books out there, but this is by far one of the best ones out there.
This series of books is very similar to the Adrian Mole books, which appear at number two in our top ten children's book listings.
When 11 year old Margaret moves to a new school she suffers from all the trials and tribulations of an adolescent in a new social surrounding. Judy Blume writes with humor and perfect prose in this fantastic novel, which is part of an equally good set!
This is by far one of the most well deserved reads for young girls, and makes it in to my top ten childrens books without a second thought!
2) The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4
Adrian Mole is Sue Townsends funniest creation by far. The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, and the Adrian Mole Diaries book set are a fantastic addition to any library. The stories are funny, witty, and will entertain you time and time again.
Adrian Mole is a dark humored British schoolboy, with deadpan wit and a slight desperation in everything he does. Adrian's regular satire and constant search for intellectual superiority make for an engaging, and pleasurable read.
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole is one of those books that is a classic addition to any English boys library, and recently it has begun to take off in America too!
1) The Tales of Narnia - Boxset
Narnia is definately a classic tale which spans several enchanting books. Following the adventures through the famous wardrobe, the tales of Narnia are imaginative and wide ranging. From a talking lion, to an ice queen, there is plenty to keep you occupied in these books.
The tales of Narnia have been read by children for decades, the tales of fantasy span a huge range of subjects, and each tale is so unique it carries its own special theme, style, and magic.
Narnia is one of those series of books which nearly all children should grow up reading, it is one of the few stories that has remained popular for this long. It will also forever remain a great set of top children's books to read to your children, and have them read to you..
This easily makes it my number one in the top ten children's books!
