Everyone has something they don’t like about themselves. Low self-esteem is usually what causes you to hone in on your flaws and focus on them instead of the good things about you. If you struggle with this, here are some tips to help you look at yourself in a different manner.

Step One: Write down what you don’t like.

If something is bothering you so bad, write it down. In fact, take a couple of hours one afternoon to sit down and write everything that grieving you. Don’t go easy. Write down all the terrible things about yourself that you don’t like.

Step Two: Sit with it.

Once you have a nice, long list made of all the things you don’t like about yourself, put the pen down and just sit with the list for a while. Read through it a few times and think about each point you’ve written down.

Step Three: Write about why you don’t like these things.

Now that you’ve visited with your self-loathing list for a bit, add more detail. Write down reasons why you don’t like all these things. What about them causes you to feel such disgust or anger against yourself? Maybe you have a particular trait that reminds you of your mother. Be specific.

Step Four: Balance it all out.

Now take a new sheet of paper. Go through each point you’ve made and create a new list of how you can turn these “flaws” into something positive. Don’t try to lie and tell yourself that none of them can be changed. If it bothers you that bad, there is always something you can do to change it. How can you take every one of those things that you hate about yourself and turn them into something that you can like about yourself?
