Trix Model Trains in HO scale and N scale

Trix Trains are a subsidiary of the great German model train manufacturer, Marklin Trains. Trix began producing electric trains in 1935, and was acquired by the Marklin trains company in 1997.

Trix electric trains are made in the popular HO scale (1/87th of the actual size) and conveniently small N scale (approximately 1/148th of the actual size), which is also a very popular scale of model trains in the United States. Trix produces models of trains from the U.S. and many European countries.

Trix HO Scale Trains

With Trix HO scale model trains, you get the same legendary German detail found in Trix's parent company, Marklin Trains (please see my hub on Marklin), but in a 2-rail Direct Current (DC) version that is the standard for HO model trains in the United States. These Trix electric trains offer great attention to detail, and many generate many types of sounds (steam, brakes, coal shoveling, station announcements, etc.) that you would hear from the real-world prototypes.

Like Marklin Trains, Trix train HO starter sets come with Marklin/Trix "C-track", which is track on a polymer roadbed that can be placed directly onto carpet or other surfaces. C-track is especially easy to put together -- no squinting to line up the little track flanges and their "female" counterparts, and bending them in the process. C-track snaps together quicker than any other type of model train track that I have used.

Trix trains are also made in N scale, the 2nd most popular scale for model trains. You can really put a nice layout in a small amount of space with N scale, which is about half the size of HO scale. At the same time, N scale is large enough where you can get a nice level of detail -- which you definitely get with Trix model trains.

Trix N scale is often refered to as MiniTrix (or Mini Trix or mini-Trix). Regardless of this trade name, Trix N scale trains are fully compatible with other N scale tracks. Trix locomotives can pull other brands of train cars, just be sure that you have the right couplers (which can be easily changed by a novice).

Trix Starter Sets

If you are new to model railroading, a starter set can be a convenient way to get started in the hobby. Starter sets generally come with at least one engine and one or more train cars, a power supply, controller and at least an oval of track.

Trix has starter sets representing railroads from several countries, including the United States, Germany, France and Switzerland. Ebay can be a great place to buy Trix Starter Sets, just be sure you know the shipping charges before bidding.  Also, be sure the power supply comes in the correct voltage for your country:  120 volts for U.S.-type housing voltage, 230 volts for European-type housing voltage.

A most informative and useful hub, particularly since I don't know much about 'Continental' outline model railways. Great stuff- keep them coming!
