Two Telephone Booths
"What if you’re standing between two telephone booths and you really need to use one. You can only choose one…
the one on the left is functioning well,
but someone is inside…
the one on the right is empty,
but you’re not sure if it’s broken…
Are you going to wait for the one on the left even if you’re not sure when the person inside would leave?
Or would you rather take the chance offered by the right booth even if you’re not certain it would work?"
That’s one of the most absurd questions I’ve been asked ever. Back in school I still remember my friend’s so-serious-face asking me about that scenario. I instantly answered the right booth as my choice. It doesn’t make sense if you won’t try the empty one right?
But my friend’s face became like that one who hosts the “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” Then she told me not to take the question literally. And I was reminded to choose only one. I wondered what she meant to choose only one…Then the bell rang so we parted ways.
And I got it, she meant to take it deeper…Anyway, I wrote it and even stared at it many times during classroom discussions. Hearing it was different though. It was easier to reply. But reading it was like more complicated. Man, it was like crazy! More so if it struck the heart…
It could mean, who would you choose between the two persons: the one you love who’s into a relationship…or the one who loves you but you’re not sure if he really does…
In that case, I still don't get the sense of it. My answer would be none.
It could also mean a lot more different interpretations. I think it just depends on the one who reads it. Whatever he or she may relate into…
As for my friend, she copied my first answer LOL though she had a very different situation. I had another round of migraine as I heard another round of her story. Her phone booths really made me crazy.
That’s one tough of a question! I’d be glad to know which phone booth you’d choose ;p
