Two-toned Iced Tea

Two-toned Iced Tea

TWO-TONED ICED TEA
(HOW TO MAKE IT)

What is two-toned iced tea?

(See photo)

Why would anyone want two-toned iced tea?

Well, there is really not too much new with
the serving of iced tea. You may decide to
add lemon or ginger or more or less sugar.
You may even try a variety of teas but then
it all looks the same.

Two-toned iced tea is prepared a little differently
and is a different way to present a familiar drink.
Since many of my guests like a cold drink I often
prepare iced tea to keep on hand. It was just
by chance, after I had made what was probably
my 100th container of it - that this separation

just happened to happen.

While it does look tricky to get that separation
it is actually very simple to make.

(According to 'The Green Tea Book' Mitscher,Toews
- iced tea was introduced at the St. Louis World's Fair)

TWO-TONED ICED TEA

You'll need:
64 oz container (as shown in the
photo below) or equivalent
2 tea bags (I like PG Tips from England)
Sugar to taste
Water
ice

Using a mug, put in the 2 tea bags
and add boiled water. Let it steep for about
4-5 minutes.

Remove the bags. Let cool for about 15 minutes.
Fill the container about 3/5ths full of water.
Add sugar to taste (about ¼ cup)/stir until
all sugar is dissolved.

Important step:

Add at least a full tray of ice. A wider
pitcher requires more ice. There should be
enough ice to form a solid layer on top
of the sugared water.

Now pour the cooled mug of tea on top of the ice.

The tea will only go down so far below the ice
and stop. This creates the two-toned effect.

Note: Storing in the fridge to serve later, the
ice will remain and the tea-will keep the
two-toned look. It's pretty to put on the table
so everyone can oooh and ahhh!

Before drinking, stir gently and serve.

Enjoy!

Hello Moonlake!

Please let me know what your husband thinks of the two-toned iced tea. I'm so curious. Now it's the only way I make iced-tea, it has to have that look or else...well, it's just not the same.

Thanks for your comment! (Love your Hubs!)

Thanks - this iced tea is fun to do - and sugared for sure. I'm a major tea drinker and in the summer like it iced. But no sugar ever in hot tea (ugh!)

I just did a hub about Japanese green tea - when I was in Korea the powdered tea was used to make all kinds of desserts - like icecream, and green tea lattes - excellent stuff!
