Federal Jobs & Employment Opportunities

There are over 41,000 careers and job opportunities available right now. Your career in the U.S. Federal Government starts here!

How do I apply for a job?

USAJOBS.gov was created to assist in your job search. It allows you to search for jobs that best match your skills and talents. There must be a vacancy announcement in order to apply for a job. The number will vary, but there are usually around 25,000 job openings listed on any given day, with new jobs being added every day. A Federal application consists of submitting a resume, usually completing an assessment and may require additional information.

Many excepted service agencies, such as the FBI, CIA, Civilian Federal and some courts, also use this venue to announce government job opportunities. Contact the agency you are interested in for specific information on a position, grade, qualifications and their evaluation process.

After doing a job search, and after finding a government job of interest, it is important that you carefully review the "How to Apply" section and follow their application instructions. Job announcement instructions vary as goverment agencies use different systems to collect and evaluate the federal job applications. You may be able to apply on line for a job, through various different online employment questionnaires, or you may need to mail or fax your resume.
