Vacation - Gold Coast Qld.
Vacation Gold Coast QLD
Like many Australians I have family living on the Gold Coast, and being based in Melbourne for many years this was my family vacation choice.
My Uncle George lives in Surfers Paradise in a house on the channel, and ties his boat up in the front yard of his house.
The Gold Coast to most of us means the city of Surfers Paradise, a large well developed high rise city built right alongside the beach especially for tourists on some of the best beaches to be found.
The whole Gold Coast could also include the area from Yatala to the New South Wales Border.
This whole area is a paradise for many Australians who flock there from their own cooler states and holiday there at Xmas and mid year breaks.
The weather is terrific with record numbers of clear days to enjoy the mass of outdoor activity.
If you base yourself in Surfers Paradise it is not far to many of the other northern destinations listed in these guides, and the southern end of the gold coast is also very beautiful and scenic.
Accommodation
in Surfers Paradise ranges from basic to lavish but for choice hotels
near the beach it pays to book at some times of the year.
Surfers Paradise.
The Gold Coast city of Surfers Paradise is a wonderful place to live. Many houses have their own canals that connect with the sea, so a boat can be a viable means of transport and recreation. I have stayed with my uncle in two different homes in Surfers Paradise, both of them were on one of the canals.
As an aside, a close friend of my father won the contract to dig these canals and made a good income from it. Enough to buy an Island in fact!
Surfers Paradise Beach.
As a vacationer you need a really big hat, good polarized sun glasses, plenty of sun screen and anything you use to swim such as goggles. It is natural to spend a lot of time in the water here, with protected beaches and pools everywhere.
A cheap portable shelter with pockets that can be filled with sand to keep it stable is also a great and handy item to have up here, as you may not want to leave the beach at all!
Surf Lifesaving clubs are very strong in this area and you will see lifeguards on many Australian beaches.
Feel free to ask their advice on local conditions, as they are there to help and know the area intimately. You can trust our volunteer life club. They are the best!
Surfers Paradise from the highway.
Every vacation facility can be found in Surfers Paradise.
Tourist locations you can drive to, fly to or go to by water are plentiful, being so near the Great Barrier Reef, the Islands and inland mountains.
The weather is very pleasant day and night with lows in the high 60's and highs in the high 70's being the norm. Like many coastal locations in Australia, the temperature varies as soon as you go inland.
You can get good cheap accommodation if you book ahead or go in the off season when hotels up here make offers with huge discounts.
Because many Australians take their vacation in December and January these can be busy times on the Gold Coast.Surfers accommodation is harder to book at these times.
The weather is great in the winter months when it is less busy and hotels rooms and other accommodation is discounted heavily.
There is enough free things to do in "Surfers" as the locals call it, that you need not spend much if on a budget, so Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast provide something for everyone.
Chevron Island Surfers Paradise.
Chevron Island
In the middle of the Nerang river is a suburb of Surfers Paradise called Chevron Island. This is a wonderful little village to visit for a coffee in one of the many coffee shops.
With it's lay back atmosphere and small village feel it is an oasis in the middle of town.
the views from the Island are very lovely and serene.
You can go across the Island to get to the beautiful Southport Golf Links, or continue on through the suburbs of Asmore and Molendinar which brings you on to the Pacific Highway at Nerang.
