"I Look To YOU"
Whitney Houston
I waited enthusiastically when I discovered that Whitney Houston was going to be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. I made sure my husband and I left the office early enough so I could hear the interview. Although I missed the first few minutes, this in itself let me know that it was going to be an interesting and intriguing treat. It was absolutely PHENOMONAL!!!
Whitney Houston is a dynamic soulfully expressive, lyrical songstress. This singer’s singer has sold over 170 Million combined videos, CD’s and albums. She has (7) seven times over had the No.1 Billboard Hot consecutive release. “The Guinness Book Of World Records lists Whitney as music's "most awarded female artist of all time." Whitney has gracefully shared her blessings. She has The Whitney Houston Foundation For Children Inc., her foundation cares for homeless children, children with HIV and self esteem problems and empowerment issues. In addition to this she has labored sponsoring many charity benefits around the world.
No doubt Oprah genuinely loves Whitney. She later exudes her enthusiasm and sheds tears of sheer joy as Whitney renders one cut from her new project! Oprah set the tone by spotlighting Whitney Houston in a wonderful intimate environment on stage, up close and intimately personal. It was in this arena Whitney Houston opened and bared her heart with her friend Oprah . The two talked intimately about her life and what has been going on. They together allowed us the viewing public to listen in as well as Whitney Houston firsthand shared her bewildered journey over the last couple of years.
So often because of the level of fame, fortune and stardom it is often forgotten that regardless stars and superstars are still people. The difference is they often live in glasshouses. Where the press lurks all too often prodigiously waiting, readily armed with a camera for the opportunity to capture them in a dimmer light. To magnify their flaws and undermine their right to hurt, feel pain and force them to publicly showcase their struggles as they flounder to overcome an apparent issue, or personal crisis. After the unfortunate death of Michael Jackson it is wonderful that Whitney Houston was able to rise above her addiction. She vehemently testifies that with Faith, through the supportive arduous love of her Mother a strong viable Christian woman, family and friends she remains on this side of heaven proclaiming her victory is in the Lord!
Whitney Houston was born on the 9th of August in 1963 in Newark New Jersey. She is from a musically multi talented family and down through the years have performed with some of the greatest. She has sung on just about every continent. Whitney Houston no doubt is a child of God and the foundation of her Faith and belief in God has spurned the buoyancy that led her through her prodigal detour from which she has emerged victoriously! She veraciously shares her spiral into cocaine abuse. She candidly shares her and Bobby Brown’s passionate, fun, dysfunctional rocky tumultuous and often turbulent episodes during their marriage. No doubt it inappropriate. Whitney Houston then verbalizes her deep abiding Faith and Trust in the Lord and her Mother’s perseverance to help turn her back to her roots. After Counseling, Reading, Prayer, much Love and support from family and friends and applying the Scriptures abetted breaking the strongholds.
Whitney Houston’s Mother the infamous Cissy Houston and Aunt Dionne Warrick are stars in their own rights; along with a host of many others expressed their love and thankfulness for Whitney’s outstanding vocal ability! She has a beautiful vocally talented teenage daughter Bobby Christina that was born during her marriage to Bobby Brown who has supported her all the way!. Whitney has accomplished much in her lifetime. Her single “I Will Always Love You” was the biggest commercial single release in history.
It was during her marriage to Bobby Brown that Whitney Houston began a momentarily descent into Cocaine and marijuana use. It is with intensive honesty that she shares the details of this passionate and life changing marriage, fight, fuss, make up, breakup then finally ending in divorce! “Yes I did cocaine.” admits Ms. Houston. She and Bobby had a very passionate, physically sexual marriage and yes, she always remained faithful! Despite his many infidelities she believes in HOLY MATRIMONY! Not trying to excuse or encourage the path of pandemonium that took place she shares the intense passion they shared along with the destructive extremely addictive use of cocaine and marijuana. “She loved that man …” I won’t tell it all here. This interview is a definite must see!
What I will say that my heart clapped as she glowed with honesty sharing her trip to rehab with her beloved daughter at her side. She unequivocally and explicitly expressed her love for the Lord, her daughter and her Mother. Whitney shares how she longed to just live away from the spotlight. Yes, she not so gracefully stepped away momentarily and irresponsibly binged on cocaine. Even tried to step back to be Mrs. Bobby Brown . She admitted this too was a faulty mistake to attempt to live in his shadow. But now Her triumphant escape from Bobby although she still waited for him to …. Whitney’s roots in the Lord go deep. Because of it she has persevered and her FAITH in God has been fortified! She is glowingly unashameably as she testifies to the awesomeness in her transitioning from her detour back to where she belongs! Her God given gift refined just that much more!
As Oprah and Whitney peered into each others’ eyes you could feel the genuine cohesiveness they emitted in their desire to share transparently their frank, truthful conversation. Remember Whitney Houston ‘s Body Guard record was the biggest selling soundtrack ever, then Waiting to Exhale and Preachers’ Wife? Whitney has matured and she is Better than ever! There is no doubt that Whitney has a God given gift of singing. The title song is a spirit-filled fabulous testimonial rendition! The resilient vibrancy in her soul rings clear with such unmistakable clarity! Her new Project “I LOOK To YOU.” Is dedicated to God who is the source of her strength. It is already No.1 on the charts! Blessings Whitney! Keep looking up!

Nobody,
Yes, It is so wonderful to know that God is a God of chances. Each of us has been given a unique inner temperament that is inclusive of strengths and weaknesses. Some people are stronger or weaker in certain areas. God is totally aware of everything. As a child of God you more so become a target for the fiery darts to pull you down. The spiritual armor is essential! Therefore we must continually renew our minds and energize our spirits through HIS word. Temptations always lurk to attempt to pull you away. Know God never tempts anyone!
Praise God! It is not strange at all that you mourn. It demonstrates the empathy and compassion the Lord has given you. This is why it is important to obey the prompting of His Holy Spirit within you. I often wonder too? Yes how is their family and children? But I also believe and realize like the thief on the cross as long as there is breath in their body they can confess Christ. God knows from day one who belongs to Him. This is why we continue to pray…
Thank You No Body for coming once again. Isn’t it such a Wonderful blessing to know that you are a child of God much peace it is always a pleasure.
Blessings

Sorry I missed the interview. Whitney's is clearly a story of personal triumph and show us all just how important it is to believe in a higher power.
PieterTheProphet,
I think that you will enjoy the interview whenever time permits. You will hear and see the transformation that the Lord has made in her life.
Please come again and let me know what you think after you see it. Thanks for stopping by

This is lovely. I haven't seen the show but I'm sure I will eventually. I am happy for Whitney and daughter that things are looking up. Thank God for His Mercies.
She was raised as a good Christian but that Bobby Brown (excuse me) became such a bad influence on her. Love is very powerful though, I guess she was addicted to Him.
On a positive note, I really wish her well and will buy "I look to you". That's a beautiful pic you have of her. Go Whitney, Go Whitney.... lol. :)
Regards, E
This is a really nice hub, DeBorrah. Growing up, I was a Whitney Houston'ite'. I loved her voice and her demeanor. She changed when she got with Bobby, and slowly but surely my view of her changed. But Whitney is only human. I realize now that I am the one who placed her on the pedestal of my heart and mind. I lifted her up higher than I should have and expected more of her than I was supposed to. Celebrities are imperfect, just like everyone else. I believe Whitney got a bad rap. She fell in love with a man. I don't know what I would do for a man that I loved the way she loved Bobby? And neither does anyone else.
Today, I see Whitney as a strong, confident, beautiful woman, who is on the right path in life. I am not as big of a fan as I was when I was a teenager, and I have yet to see the interview. But I still love her music and I still think she has one of the best voices I have ever heard.
I pray for her, that she would come to know Jesus as Saviour.
I am glad you wrote this hub, DeBorrah. I am reminded what first drew me to Whitney and just how talented and resilient she is.
I believe she would be pleased with your kind words towards her. God bless.
Thank you Lady E! I am sure you will enjoy it. God is so GOOD! Whitney is an excellent example because many can identify with her because she is such a superstar. I wanted to give her KUDO’s because it is rare that one so clearly gives the LORD the credit for making ALL the difference in the world who has reached her level of Fame! He took her through and brought her out! It is my prayer that this will inspire others if they are in this position. And stop others who are thinking about going there!
I recommned taking some time to see the show soon. I KNOW you will be BLESSED! Let me know what you think once you see the interview? There is a lot more revealed in the interview. I just wanted to say enough to encourage others to see it for themselves.
No doubt Bobby Brown is going through. Just maybe this will turn him around too and to the LORD! You are right she was addicted to him! I call this "intoxicating affections!" that really mimics love! I think I will write a hub on being addicted to people. Being a child of God the enemy always lurks to try and discredit you, malign you and or pull you down to distract you from your God given purpose! It is important to make sure you consult the Lord before you commit to someone. This is also why it is so important to be careful and make sure that your potential mate at least has the same Love for the Lord. Who Is equally yoked! The Lord WILL give you someone who will be able to love you passionately in every way especially when they Love Him! (more on this later) Be encouraged! Again thank you for visiting! Praise God for the VICTORY!
We must continue to keep her in our prayers; Go Whitney!!! Go Whitney!!!
As always your visit was a pleasure!
Blessings
Things happen good and bad for a reason. But all good things work together for those who love the LORD!!!! The only thing I can say is that God watched over her and didn't alow the enemy to kill her and I thank Him for that!! She will be and forever more a testimony to all!!!!
Thanks for this hub as I was only able to see a little bit of the interview. I too was a Whitney Houston fan growing up. I thought about her and prayed for her when she was going through all the drug abuse stuff. I'm glad she is turning her life around!
Yolonda Yvette,
I am glad that you enjoyed this hub! You are right about the change that came about when she got with Bobby. Whitney talks about that during the interview. I did not want to spoil the crux of the interview for those who have not seen it.
Quite often people go into a relationship thinking that the person will change? It is important to always keep in mind you can not change anyone. They have to want to change and then begin to take the necessary steps to do so...
I am really beginning to look more at the term “fall in love” because really we should “rise to love.”! True love encompasses mutual respect, admiration, passion and so much more …. If you really and truly LOVE someone you will do whatever it is necessary to help them become the BEST that they can be. True Love lasts forever! All too often today for many it means laying aside principles in order to satisfy the flesh ……. This is what I call “intoxicating affections. I think many can actually be helped by this interview.
I too see Whitney as a strong, confident woman on the right path. Let me know what you think once you see the interview. We must continue to keep her in prayer. Thank you for honestly sharing how you feel. Thank you for visiting as well!
Blessings
Drpastorcarlotta,
So TRUE “ALL things do work together for the GOOD when you…” Even the bad things! From a counseling perspective I know that you can understand the perplexity of behavior dynamics that were taking place within this relationship. The strong hold has been broken!
Not at all condoning the use of drugs; which was terrible and irresponsible . Whitney openly allowed her fans to hear firsthand what has been going on. I am thankful that the Lord allowed her to stay on this side of Heaven as well! But we also know that the enemy will continue to tempt her. This is why I am SO GLAD that she publicly gave the Lord the victory, PRAISE GOD! Thank you for coming and continue to do what you do so Well to help the saved as well as unsaved. Now that't ministry!
Blessings
Cari Jean,
You are quite welcome! Thank you for visiting. Continue to pray for Whitney she still needs it! You like so many others are glad to see that she is back on the right path. Please come again.
Blessings
I saw the second half of the interview. It was good to finally see that Whitney is stronger than ever. She has a powerful voice and she was truly missed. Thank you for this hub. Our faith in God is never misplaced.
Chris Eddy111
It is good to see her once again standing on her FAITH!
The Lord has Blessed her with a powerful instrumemt. Let's continue to lift her up in prayer for her continued strength.
You are quite welcome and Thank You for coming!
Blessings
I missed this interview but must try and catch it. I am so glaad she is back on track.
Helen Cater,
Thank you for visiting. This interview is a must see! Let me know what you think? I am glad as well...
Blessings
DeBorrah, wonderful article, I miss Whitney, loved her in the 80's. I did see a little of the interview, now I am going to youtube to see if I can see it.
Ladybird33,
Thank you and Thank you as well for stopping by. Please let me know what you think once you see the interview?

I have followed Whitney's journey over the past few years as the connection to addiction have been much the same as mine. Her comeback and her testimony on National TV is a strong witness to the many who have choosen the same path. God uses each and every person, failures and success to His glory. Whitney is that example, beautifully written a lasting tribute to her DeBorrah.
Quill,
I appreciate the fact that Whitney has reached deep down inside of herself and found the Faith and strength to rise above her addiction. Her addiction is also what quieted the voice of the Lord in her as she hid her pain with drugs. She transparently admits the hold it had on her and candidly shares her Love for the Lord and how it is the very thing that has brought her through. It is my hope that others can see that strength and be motivated as well. Thank you for your honesty and I pray that you too were encouraged and strengthened! To God Be the Glory! Thank you for visiting.

It is good to see artists coming out to talk about their sufferings, trial and tribulations, etc. too many times do we forget that they are human beings and that like any other person, they suffer. I'm glad not to be famous, or rich..I have peace of mind, not having to look my best all the time, not having my past or lies being put up all over the media or my present.
Being famous you are also a target for kooks. Many were killed like John Lennon because he wanted fame instead he got prison and hatred.
Money isn't happiness as we have seen, it can't feel. It's just a means to an end and many times..it ends your life.
I'm happy with my 6 cats, no husband to beat me or cheat or whatever..I'm rich and famous before God and His angels..now that is worth trillions of dollars.. :):)
Dancing Red Feather,
I think it does help. I think it also Frees a lot of people to just be who they are. To learn how to be happy at whatever place they are in life. I was taught that "people don't come in grades like butter." They may live in a poor or an afluent neighborhood and still be just as unhappy or happy. I believe True happiness comes from knowing who you are in Jesus Christ!
It is sad about being a target for kooks> I think this is because they do not see people as people! We are not to idolize people! Have compassion, Yes! But, Only worship God!
Money really does not make you happy. It cannot buy you happiness. Money comes and goes. Joy is a gift from God it is not contingent on money! Just being the best you can be as the person you were created to be is ultimately our purpose in life.
I agree! We are Rich when we have the Lord as well as His Angels this is priceless like you said it is "worth trillions of dollars!"
It has been a pleasure and thank you for your wise comments.
Blessings
Hi! DeBorrah, AWESOME God we are serving! Gracious to pull us out from all kinds of mess. Keep safe and healthy!
Ladyeagle_cdc
Welcome, Yes God is AWESOME!
Thank You for visiting.
Blessings!
All my highschool years and college days , too, every girl and lady in the academe are going gaga over the songs interpreted by Whitney Houston and her persona as well.
The only glitch in her life is her husband, Bobby Brown. I hope she will be at the right path again. Thanks for this hub, Ms. Ogan (aka Whitney Houston of Hubpages). Will you sing one of her songs (smile)?
ravel_man1971
I Believe that Whitney and Bobby were “unequally yoked.” This contributed immensely to her taking the detour of a prodigal path. I am thankful for Whitney’s openness to share her misconduct and repentant honesty!
It is my prayer that she remains STRONG since she is Back on track! This should be a welcomed encouragement to those who have strayed or need to make a change! Yes I will sing “ I LOOK TO YOU!” But I am sure you would much rather hear Ms. Whitney Houston. Thank you for stopping by and please come again!
Blessings

I thank God that He is a God of second and third chances. I know in my case He has given me countless times of refocus and rededication. Thank God she comes back to Him. These folks are real and people think me strange but when they die I mourn for them and for their families. I wonder Did they know Christ? How will this effect their families? their kid? will it bring them closer to God? Thanks Deb and praise God.
