Wallpaper Wonderland
Wallpaper has undergone a total reinvention. Out of fashion for years whilst we tried to forget the awful flock hallways of our childhoods, wallpaper is now back with vengeance. It's an absolute essential for every stylish home.
You can transform the way a room looks with good use of wallpaper but there's a bewildering array of choice that puts a lot of people off. From flock and floral wallpapers, to plain and paintable wallpapers, and even leather or suede wallpapers the list goes on and on, and that's before we even start on wall stickers and decals!
So to help you through the wallpaper minefield, and avoid those hideous wallpapering mistakes of the past, here are a few top tips to help you wallpaper your home with confidence.
Size! Does it matter?
One of the most commonly asked question is the age old adage of size, and if it matters. The commonly quoted rule is that small spaces need delicately patterned wallpapers to give the illusion of space. However, in her new TV Show, Home-made Home, Kirstie Allsopprecently said that golden rule for wallpapering is much more simple: just be confident. Allsopp wallpapered a tiny down stair loo (always the smallest room in the house!) with large, bold patterned wallpaper and it looked fantastic.
The one irrefutable rule for choosing a wallpaper pattern is to try a sample first. Get a large square of the patterned paper you think you like, and pin it in a prominent position in your home to make sure you look at it regularly. In front of the loo or above the telly are good spots! You might find after a few days, you can't stand the sight of it! Another great way is to upload a photograph to mydeco and use their "Decorate a photo" tool to put the wallpaper onto the walls in your room,
Colour & Mood
The colour of the walls can have a huge impact on the atmosphere of a room. Think of a room decorated with stark white wallpaper, and contrast this with a similar room decorated with a yellowy, cream coloured wallpaper. A subtle change in huge can make a big difference so think carefully about the kind of feel you are trying to achieve with the room and the wallpaper. Earthy wallpaper tones like soft browns, oranges, reds, creams and gold are all warm colours. Blues, greens, and whites tend to have a colder feel.

Inspired by nature: Turn a new leaf with leafy designs - as botanical are big this season. Look for papers that reflect nature with patterns consisting of trees, leaves and plants.
Metallic wallpaper: Give your home some shine with a metallic wallpaper. Monochromatic and mirrored wallpaper give your home a futuristic cool look. Beware though - you need very smooth walls for this kind of wallpaper.
Handmade wallpaper: Handmade wallpapers are very fashionable at the moment. They tend to be a bit more expensive, and a little bit more effort but you will be sure to have created something really unique and bespoke for your home.
