How do i know what type of hair you have?
FACED WITH SO MUCH CHOICE
If you go to your local drugstore or market to buy shampoo and conditioner you will see a huge amount of lotions and potions- which one do you go for? They all promise beauty, lustrous locks and bounce. If that is the case then 99% of the female population must be going wrong. We all moan about our hair, that it does not look as good as it might.
If you don’t know what type of hair you have there is a simple guide to see how much oil the hair is producing. Wash your hair the day before and let it dry naturally. Take a piece of tissue paper and press it firmly on the three oiliest patches, the top of the head and above both ears. Remove the tissue paper and you will see the amount of oil on it- if very oily use a suitable shampoo.
There are other ways that stylists use to gauge what shampoo and conditioner to use on you. Have you ever noticed that hair washed by the stylist seems to look better than when you do it at home?
Tips from a stylist
Stylists work on the theory that
Normal skinned people have normal hair
Dry skinned people have dry hair
People with oily skin have oil hair
It is possible to have a combination which is usually oily on top and dry at the ends.
HOW YOUR HAIR TYPE SHOWS
Normal Hair
If you have normal hair you are so lucky!
If you have normal hair it looks good from day one through to day seven with minimum maintenance – ( probably these people are few and far between)
Oily Hair
This looks good for a day maybe two but then looks dull and lifeless. The hairs tend to stick together particularly at the top of the head where the oil is concentrated. The hair looks and feels dirty and with all the oil it is to our modern standards, dirty. If you didn’t have enough with oily hair, it attracts dandruff too.
Dry hair
Before shampooing it looks dry, the ends are out of control and it is so difficult to style. This type of hair is prone to split ends and needs trimming regularly. Sometimes it is accompanied by a dry scalp and itching. If the hair does not split it often just breaks, leaving styles difficult to cope with.
Combination hair
As the name says- it is a combination. Most often the hair is greasy on the top and dry at the ends. This means that when the top is looking good the ends will look dry and when the ends are looking good the top is greasy! Stylists say they tend to see this type of hair with ladies who wear their hair longer rather than with short styles.
