Why I Choose to Not Connect to Negativity
79
I had been wondering if there was a writer's community that discusses only spiritual and motivational topics, and I found a social network called Gaia, which so far seems like a great place for those of us who enjoy writing about spiritual topics and being focused on possibility living. I joined immediately and have started to make friends with kindred spirits, much like in Hubpages.
I do not totally isolate myself from the realities of the world, I am a concious person, and try to help when I can, but I admit, I hardly watch the news, and prefer to be involved with a creative project, a good book or visit my favorite writers in hubpages when time permits.
I try not to dance the dance of fear because instead of building me up, it brings negativity into my space and into the world. I figure, if am doing well, I will in turn help others or create opportunity, and I can only do this by being true to myself, to my spiritual and psychological philosophy even if it makes me less than popular.
Victoria Falls- Africa's Seventh Natural Wonder
My approach to life for the most part even when "tested," has been:
We live in a world of duality, and because of this, we will always experience cycles of growth, and others where life slows down and gives us challenges.
It is not the challenge that really matters, it is how we deal with it; how we perceive it; how attached we are to wanting things to be a certain way; it is this attachment which causes suffering.
As example, when I accepted both in my mind and heart that I was no longer employable in the corporate world due to the economy in the 9/11 aftermath in New York and other factors, I felt a burden lift, and doors started to open and I found alternate ways of earning my living.
This release of attachment led to my state of surrender and acceptance. When I accepted that some situations cannot be changed, but I could create new ones to replace them, I could go on living, much the wiser, while I did what needed to be done, which often involved asking for help. I learned out of this experience that spinning downwards into fear and drama only complicates a situation, and its not really needed. It brings us out of our balance, and clouds judgment.

The Best Year of Our Lives!
If you are a business owner today, I have a few thoughts for you
DON’T READ THE NEWSPAPERS AND DON’T WATCH THE NEWS.
It’s based on Fear. It’s based on Economical manipulation. It’s based on something that, if you’re receiving this email, isn’t something that you probably want in your life.
Run your business based on what you know. Based on the light and the Truth. Always. Shape up. Sure, everyone is influenced by what goes on around them, but not EVERYONE’s business rises and falls based on the mass consciousness of fear and of failing materialism.
Watch where you come from. Pretend you’re abundant. Pretend your business is getting ready to take the next big leap into the best phase it’s ever been in. Playfully act as though you’re above anything that could possibly bring you down.
If you provide a service, make sure it truly Serves.
If you sell a product, make sure it produces something good for the one who purchases it.
If you offer ideas, consulting or counseling, make sure you’re doing what I’m doing right now – encourage those around you to reach for the stars. The light. The knowing. The difference. The difference, that’s it. What’s different about how YOU run YOUR business?
As conscious beings, light-workers, healers, Age of Aquarius business owners, during this great Shift, if we don’t stand in the light and shine forth while the darkness around us is being exclaimed from the rooftops, then who will? Will we join them and wait for things to change? Or will we excel. Climb higher. Rise Above?
Reach for the stars, now, especially. They’re brighter than ever. And universal Abundance is not limited to a fear driven newscast or muted by the grip of a depressive economical outcry.
Rise Above. Rise Above. It’s the best time to be there.” PP
It's predictable how easy it is for humans to revert back to our fearful ways; it is for this reason, I like to keep inspired and remind myself that the universe's bounty is available for all us, not always in terms of material wealth but with inner wealth, ie; peace, gratitude, humor, love, inspiration, which creates an openness in seeing that everyday can be a source of wonder. Many people live this way, some quietly and others as well known teachers and entertainers, and they too had their challenges in the past.
On the left side capsule below the sunny photo, is a blog entry "The Best Years of Our Lives!" by an artist in Gaia, that speaks eloquently on the importance of not connecting to the mass consciousness of fear, and shining our light and reaching for the stars!
I choose this path, the path of shining light, living my Truth, and dispersing the shadows of fear.
It's the most loving contribution I can make to myself and to the pool of consciousness.
Do you believe you can influence your life by being an optimist?

Hi, Kylie: Good to see you! Thanks for reading. :)
Marie, Great advice! This is why I do not watch the news on TV, I read (this way I can choose what to read). Staying positive is so important!
Neat hub, thanks. I stopped watching the news on tv years ago, and then I got rid of my tv, too. It does not mean that I ignore the world -- far from it; I read news stories and research the important ones on my computer. But not being sucked into the passive role of television viewer makes a positive difference. Gaia is a good website; there are a growing number of outlets now for all kinds of spiritual engagement on a meaningful level. I must say, though, that I've found a lot of wonderful articles on spirituality here on HubPages, and have benefitted from reading material produced by folk from an array of philosophical backgrounds.
Kari: I am glad you keep positive, its worth it! And it has a ripple effect on others.
Teresa: Wow, I am too chicken to get rid of my TV, LOL! but good for you in making your choices. I had heard of Gaia but thought it was a forum so didn't pay too much attention, until the other night.
Thanks ladies, for reading and commenting, I appreciate it!
Great hub. Thanks. I'm doing my best to follow this logic and I know it helps. Have you seen "What the Bleep do We Know?" It acually focuses on changing the physiology of the brain--for good OR for bad, depending on our chronic thought choices.
That's a great statement: "It is not the challenge that really matters, it is how we deal with it; how we perceive it; how attached we are to wanting things to be a certain way; it is this attachment which causes suffering."
It's a one step forwards, two steps back for many. Self reflection is not easy. For those truly getting deep into themselves the journey is difficult. That is a good statement to hold onto.
Druneric: Yes, I watched it last year. Thanks for reminding me! Will watch it again this week.
Jewels: The awareness about attachment is something that I have found valuable in my journey. I am glad you found the statement useful.
Thank you for your comments!
VEry good thoughts. I agree that the way the news is presented today with a spin on everything and the same gloom and doom shown over and over 24/7, it is very important to limit how much you expose yourself to it. In the old days when journalism was and honorable profession with strict guidelines to give the public the facts and allow them to make up their own minds, a person could be well informed by reading one reputable newspaper a day and watching one half-hour news program. Now everything is so jumbled up and slanted, you have to sort the truth from the lies before you can even begin to know what's actually going on! It can be very debiitating if you let it!
Hi, Suzanne:
Forgot about this, how different journalism was in the past, it was one that one had the tendency of trusting. Nowadays when I hear something in the news or read it, I am wondering which is fact or fiction. Thanks for stopping by!
I like Gaia, already there.
Thanks for the great Hub, Marie! I have just joined Gaia myself - thanks for the intro there. I had not come across it before but look forward to participating there.
Love and peace
Tony
Hi, Tkimwrsvc: Good to find a hubber who is a member. :)
Tony: Happy to read you joined! I am sure we will meet there too. I haven't yet participated fully, but will soon. Thanks for your comments!
"the universe's bounty is available for all us", I LOVE that! Also the line about attachment! Very nice hub, makes one wonder why ever negativity manages to seep into our lives, when we all really have the means not to let it :-)
Hola, Elena: Negativity seeps into our lives because its part of duality, while we live in this planet we are all subjected to it, howeeever, we need not stay into it. So says, Violetsun the "philosopher" for the day. :) Always good to read your comments.
Hello VS-- you are a ray of sunshine. I loved reading this. My father always used to say that "In life it's not the hand you are dealt but how you play the cards that counts" Your hub reminded me of that and it is so true. I'm into living in the now and letting go of the past--but as you point out, it isnt always easy to do. But I have found that negative thinking, anger, fear and self pity take a lot of energy that could be better employed and never lead me to a good place. Have to admit I do watch what passes for news but also read a lot both online and off to balance it out. News these days isn't news-- just opinion and sensationalism designed to bring in ad dollars IMHO so I don't take it too seriously.
Thanks for the tip about gaia to-- I'll go over and have a look. Thanks for another positive and uplifting read:-)
Hi VioletSun, I enjoyed reading your hub. Like you say we do live in a world of duality so we will meet up with negativity in our day to day living but having a choice to stay connected to it or not is completely up to each to decide which holds the key to their own freedom. Not holding onto negativity has proven to be much more freeing for me. Great hub. Thanks for writing!
I couldn't agree more. Now I have to go check out Gaia.
Thank you for this great hub - I have in the past always been an optimist, but lately the news and the degraded outlook constantly being forcast by the naysayers and the gloom and doom merchants for the survival of our world, is downright depressing...and I only watch the ABC news at 7pm ..and that is enough although I do check out any major stories on the internet during the day so i really appreciated your timely hub - great attitude and very thought provoking - cheers
am also going to look at Gaia
Lovely hub, Violetsun, thank you! I will have to check out this Gaia site. This is the first I've heard of it.
I have a different orientation to negativity. I think it's all just life, all of it, and it doesn't do me any good to choose this over that. When I am faced with negative feelings or thoughts, I try to stay with them, to absorb and transform them. For instance, many people avoid anger, but anger contains tremendous energy. As you say, it is what a person does with it that matters. Anger itself isn't bad. Same with sorrow. Sorrow isn't bad, it can open a person's heart and create compassion where there once wasn't any. Darkness teaches me as much as light--in fact, without darkness, how would we even understand light?
Thank you for writing this and for your inspiring and always fascinating take on life. :o)
Robie: I have a friend that I have known for almost 30 years, and she is stuck in self pity and in how terrible everything is and turns off my other friends- so as you can imagine, she is not a person who attracts what is joyful into her life. I stopped commiserating with her because its not good to encourage her to stay stuck, and have encouraged her to be grateful for the good in her life, and to use her talents in beauty and crafts to have a little business on the side. I think, I may have had some affect on her, as the tone of her emails and interactions have shifted a little, or maybe I am dreaming. LOL!
Thanks for stopping by!
Dottie: You understood my message perfectly, yes negativity will happen, its a part of life, but transcending it, altough its not always easy, is something we can all do.
Ajcor: I remember hearing a speech b y Billy Graham, who said that when we bombard our minds with negativity we pick up the energy of this (I am rephrasing but its the same message)... If one wants to watch the news that's fine, my sister does all the time, but it's also good to balance it with things that inspire us. At least those are my thoughts. :)
Pam: I understand exactly what you are saying, being in denial of one's anger, fear, etc isn't helpful at all, but transcending it, is. I am exploring EFT which I a assume you have heard of, and it encourages the release of the "negative" emotions and the memories of our experiences by acknowledging it, and not with positive words, and releasing through tapping on the meridian points. Just ordered a closed caption DVD and can't wait to watch it!
Thanks for reading and your honest input.
And hey, guys, glad you are looking into Gaia, should be fun if we meet there also. :)
It is always so uplifting to be reminded of these truths. Thanks for saying what I know to be true but sometimes don't follow.
Jennifer: Thanks for reading and commenting, and I also need reminders myself from time to time.
I like the path you walk.
Hi, Goldentoad: Its always a pleasure to see you! And I love the writings you do. Thank you for stopping by. :)
Hi Violetsun,
Interesting and a different topic. No news are good news for me now for 5 year's, no TV no newspaper no news because there are no good news anyway. I get my weather report from Firefox add on. I do have internet TV I some times watch movies and other programs.
Spirituality is and should be an important part of our life but to live in this material world we do need sufficient wealth to live in harmony. Living hand to mouth is not is not good living, why to suffer yourself or let your family suffer. I believe moderation is the key to every thing, there should be balance in both spirituality & material wealth.
~Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death.~
~Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living.~ Anais Nin
Hi, Mr. Nice: I agree that living hand to mouth is not a comfortable way to live, as you pointed we do live in a material world, and understand perfectly about the sate and how remaining in it and how it causes stagnation. Thanks for reading and your insightful comments.
So true. Will you believe me if I tell you that I too discovered (for different reasons) long time ago that I was a misfit in the corporate world. I kept dragging myself for many years and finally gave up. Couldn't take it any more. Taking a silent retreat offered me an opportunity to know myself better and helped me in coming closer to my Creator. I feel much happier and content since then. I have always admired the element of 'honesty' in all your writings. Thumbs up.
Anjali: Oh, I get chills when I read your comments; I too was such a misfit in the corporate world, and so glad I am not there anymore. I also see honesty and wisdom in your writings , reason why I am your fan. Thanks for your comments and reading.
Lovely writing you have here! I have long decided that I am not going back to the corporat world. Like you, I feel like a misfit.
All the best in your spiritual journey!
Hello, Evelyn: It's been a long time I haven't seen you in hubpages. :) You were one of the first hubbers I met when I first joined the community. Congratulations on making a choice that feel good for you.
Thanks for your stopping by!
Hi Violetsun,
It's good to walk on the sunny side, isn't it? It took me a long time to learn that. I've worked in the Civil Service, in manufacturing, in publishing and in retail, so I've experienced many different aspects of the work-place, but for the most part I've felt quite out of step. These days I work partly for myself as a self-employed hypnotherapist, and partly in a three person estate agency (real estate) which is very quiet and low key these days, and allows me time to consider the world on my terms. I love politics, and following the news, but I enjoy it at arms length. We need to be informed, but not necessarily involved.
Thanks for this hub. I'll check out Gaia later!
Hi, Amanda: Good to see you, and good to hear you have work in your terms. I am meeting more and more people online and offline who earn a living that supports what they want to do with their time.
Gaia is amazing, the owner welcomed me which I assume she does with new members, but she gives you the personal touch, even shared this hub with her team. She is very loving. I am still learning my way around.
Thanks for stopping by!
Two things really hit home, attachment and being a misfit in the corporate world. Somehow, this morning while reading your words, I felt comforted. as if you had just read my own thoughts about struggling with leaving a life I knew very well, was very good at, but could no longer have a clear conscience about working in. These days, I feel as though I'm in first grade, starting all over. I am often tempted by the idea that it would be easier to go back to the familiar, but then I see I'd be back in the same negative place. So I keep going forward, even though the progress often stalls. Thank you, VioletSun, for your message which is full of love and hope.
Sally: Oh, your comment kinda made my eyes, wet, because I truly understand what you are saying. When I was starting over, I was stalled for a while, actually a long time, as I was basically on my own, but I kept moving forward, and I am glad I did, as its not only about money, but the quality of life one acquires. Peace, harmony, creativity is what replaced what I left behind, one which has been a constant for the past 5 years or so, while I made adjstments with my life style.
Thanks for reading and your comments.
Hi Violet,
I just read your article and I would like to share my thoughts with the hope of sharing another perspective from my personal experience. Not too long ago I used to avoid negativity as much as possible, not looking at the news, avoiding difficult situations, etc. For a while it seemed like it was the way to live, however after isolating myself from negativity for a long time I found myself becoming shocked, fearful, or extremely sensitive every time I had to confront negativity because the reality is that we can't really get away from it. I found that running away from the negative was disempowering me and slowly chipping away at the enormous strenghth I once had, but did not know how to use in the right way. Something I did not know is that when we begin to connect to our inner light, by design we are going to attract darkness in one way or another and we need to learn how to trasncend those moments with strength and dignity. We can't be truly happy inside if we don't feel that we are truly protected from all harm as long as we listen to our inner guidance. If we truly believe this why must we run away from what needs healing. It is almost as if we had a terrible illness and we decided not to look at it, but we can't, eventually we are going to have to.
Right now I am not running to read the news or desiring negativity in my life, but I decided to come to terms with it and accept it as part of life. If I accept it as normal it is no longer an issue. I find that the greatest joy comes from overcoming all obstacles and knowing that no matter what comes our way we can handle it. Now whenever I come across negative situations I look at them with a sense of strength and compassion because I know that it is where healing is needed most. In essence I have a great desire to become stronger so that when the negativity comes my way I can neutralize it and take away the lesson if it is for me or send waves of compassion where is most needed.
I find that we are constantly growing and learning and what may have worked for us in the past may no longer work in the future. In case anyone may be experiencing what I have experienced I thought I'd share this. However, it is not to say that living in state of peace, love and harmony is unrealistic because it is very realistic, but I find that life is feeling more real to me as I become stronger and learn to face all that comes my way knowing that I am not alone and that I will be guided to either face the situation or walk away.
Hi, Mayra: As mentioned in at the beginning of this hub, I stated "I do not totally isolate myself from the realities of the world, I am a concious person, and try to help when I can" , but choose to focus on what inspires me. Agree that negativity will show up in life, its part of duality.
Thanks for reading and your comments!
What a wonderful outlook you have. : )
Peacefulwmn: Thanks for reading and your warm energy. :)
Positively helpful! I learned how harmful and unproductive being negative was early in life, i completely rejected it. I am a better and happier person for it. Great job!
Marie- That picture of the mountain and the lake reflection is really awesome. To answer your question I answered sometimes because sometimes what I think of myself is based on just my own opinion about myself but at other times based on others opinion I rethink my own opinion about myself. I guess I am always in a state of flux evaluating myself and haven't still learned to be insulated from the positive(i.e., very important not to get carried away)/neutral(i.e., may sometimes not be a honest feedback just politically correct)/negative(i.e., sometimes being criticized for criticism sake) opinion of others about me. I still have a long way to go before I learn like you not to get affected by negativity. Thumbs up for a thought provoking hub.
Islandvoice: I congratulate you for choosing to be a possibility person, it does make a difference in the quality of our life.
CW: Good to see you. I still get affected at times by the negative, one never stops being human. I cry when I see suffering, but in the midst of all the suffering and negativity there is also beauty and joy, so there is potential for the world.
You are always so honest and introspective. When comes to self judgment, we all see life and people through our filters, and you are at the core an awesome being, so no matter what life give you or what others say or not, that will be a constant. I remember the ex calling me selfish in one of his tirades, and that's not one of my faults, though it made me sad that he would need to use words to hurt, I knew with certainty this wasn't who I was, so my self opinion didn't change- however, he was a very selfish man, to which he admitted; interesting how we all project onto others what is inside of us.
Thanks ladies for reading and commenting!
Thank you so much for this great Hub. You are great inspiration, always.
Well, everyone of us has to make an effort to choose the path of goodness, love and peace. It is a process, and for each process we need time. But, it is worth it. It is so nice feeling to create love and paradise around us.
I agree with your comment: one never stops to be human. Dark side always exist, that is normal. We do not need to become saints; just better then we were...
Thanks for the precious gift which you have given us with this Hub.
Lots of Love....
Tatjana: I love your comment, "we do not need to become saints; just be better than we were..." It sums up my philosophy. :)
Thanks for stopping by with your bright energy and support.
Hello Violet:
Please note that my response was not intended to imply that you are not a conscious person, but to bring a different perspective from my personal experience. I am sorry that you felt offended my comment. I can only speak my truth even if it is different from everyone else's. I can't live life any other way.
God bless,
Mayra
Mayra: Oh, no, you didn't offend me, not at all! It's hard to convey one's message at times, without the facial expressions, and I guess I was pressed for time and didn't elaborate.
Thank you once again for your perspective.
Hi VioletSun, what a beautiful hub to read after a long day at work. I'm glad I decided to drop by and check if you have written something new. I've missed our little conversations and exchanges :-) You wrote, "It is not the challenge that really matters, it is how we deal with it; how we perceive it.." That is so true. And what we focus on is what expands. So I agree with you wholeheartedly that we do not deny the duality of life but rather choose to see the light and respond in a positive way!
Dayzeebee and I are also learning about EFT :-) And it is a great too to help deal with negative emotions. Gaia sounds interesting. Will check it out and will tell you if I'm already there. Have a blessed day! Hugs...
Ripplemaker: You got the gist of my message as usual. :) I am fascinated by EFT, wow, it allows one to bring up the negative emotions and transmute them. I am a newbiee with this. And if you join Gaia do let me know wo we can be pals there.
Thanks for visiting!
VioletSun, I think you're on to something- surround yourself with the positive in order to influence the negative that's going on all around. It's not as if you're trying to bury your head in the sand but rather than allow all that is wrong in the world to influence your worldview, you are instead attempting to positively impose your "better" worldview on the world around you. I'm also trying to associate with positive, inspiring people and also create a place where people can come to and draw strength from. This is what I've got so far: www.lifeascent.wordpress.com Tell me what you think, thanks!
Great Hub!
I agree with everything you wrote.
just for fun i wanted to throw out some books i've read on this type of spiritual thinking...apologies if they're ones you've already read or heard of.
Seven Spiritual laws of Success by Deppok Chopra
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
The Sedona Method- Your key to lasting peace, well-being, happiness, and success by Hale Dwoskin
my FAVORITE quote (in Seven Spiritual Laws) is, "The past is history, The future is a mystery, and this moment is a gift. That is why this moment is called "THE PRESENT."
i'm going to check out Gaia thanks for the suggestion!
Worldwielder: Thanks for your comments, and yes, I don't mean to deny what is going on in the world, but I feel I can better serve my influencing those around me to be the best they can be. Its nice to be understood clearly, thank you! :) I copied and pasted the link you shared, and its working, could you try again? I would like to take a peek!
Laurena: I have read all of them, but cool you shared, its a good list that others may find useful and its a reminder for me to read them again. I will check out Deepak again... he is hard to read, but always a very wise teacher. I am getting a tad dissapointed with Gaia after I wrote this hub... :::grumble:::: the owner is fantastic, but... its not Hubpages, where the community is very warm. I am being honest here. ;)
Thanks for reminding us to stay positive...:)
Hi, Feline Prophet: Thanks for your comment. :) Your avatar and sn, is so charming, LOL!
Thank you Marie...I am enjoying reading your hubs! :)
I just became your fan, Feline Prophet, and read your bump hub, it was wise and funny. I am happy, I met you! :)
You may find me on Gaia. My name there is Joushu. Feel free to add me. ;)
Hilltrekker: thanks for reading and will check your hub out.

thanx
Thanks britney for reading and commenting. Just took a look at your hub, and wow. :)
What a lovely reminder of the power of positivity. Here, I have a difficult time completely avoiding negativity of the media variety because of family members who are glued to the TV practically 24/7, so headphones help a lot.
Hi, Jerilee: I understand, my family and friends are glued to CNN, so hear the news through them; good you found a way to balance it. :)
Thanks for stopping by, its appreciated.
Hi Vi,
Very nice hub, and so many great comments. I know of the power of thought, and recognise thoughts are like a&$ holes....we all got them. So, I too understand that negativity is inevitable. After all thoughts are energy inert to positive or negative. Until, we apply intention to them. It is our choice to take or make a thought good or bad.
Thank you all for an interesting read, be well.
Hi Violet,
I liked your cool article of Positive attitude. As everyone knows, we have to practice the positive attitude from our childhood itself. But, due to our society, teachers, friends etc. we are not encouraged to practice it. I have read in several self-help books that we have to see only the good/positive side of everything. We have to practice it. Later on it will become a habit and we will see our life becoming more rewarding and enjoyable. Patience, Practice & Perseverance pays off!!!!
Nice article on positivity
Thank you all for your insightful comments! Adds to the topic, and its appreciated. :)
Taking breaks from the news is crucial for one's sanity. There is only so much one can take of reports of the violence and the economy, so sometimes it is good to just focus on more positive things. Yes the economy is not in good shape right now, but during the Depression people lived and actually escaped through movies, radio, and books. I am not saying people have to live in lalala land, but I think there is just too much negative obsession with the economy these days. It is just shocking for our generation I believe because we grew up feeling everything depended on credit and material things (not everyone but society in general), so people are disconcerted when for the first time in their lives they have to economize. Being a creative person and enjoying the simple things in life, such as nature, helps us to put this into perspective.
Sweetiepie: You understood my message perfectly; I don't encourage denial of what is going on, but a higher focus on what inspires and simplifying, does put things in perspective.
Thanks for your comments.
Hi VioletSun. Great hub. Keep writing.
Kulsum: Thank you for reading and commenting.

Wow, I will look forward to seeing your inspirational self empowerment website soon! :)
We could all do well to cut the negativity in our lives, as it impacts every facet of our being. Thanks for a great hub!
Hi Violet Sun,
thanks for reminding me what determines my mood.
Hi, Chris and Benson: I was busy in the kitchen cooking lasagna for tomorrow's holiday lunch, sat down to take a break and check hubpages, and was pleased to find your comments in this hub.
Thanks for reading and your comments! :)
Being positive is about the best thing anyone can do and once you start being positive you start feeling positive about the future that will surround your life because of positive thoughts.
Nice and shiny hub.
Waynet: I so agree with you! Thanks for reading and adding your positive energy. :)
This is one of better hubs so far that I have read. Its so refreshing. Specially liked the article "The best years of our lives". That was super inspiring. Cheers
Jayb" Thank you so much for reading and your comments! :)
I loved your hub, this inspires me to banish all sorts of negativity around me :P. Its good to just focus on more positive things. Although I do agree that newspapers and news on TV instil fear and cloud our judgements, its difficult for me to stay without them LOL :D
Hi, Kirsa: Nice to see you. :) I guess as long as we also focus on the positive and beautiful in life, such as art, gratitude, etc, it balances the news.
Thanks for reading and commenting.
Hey VoiletSun my hub " The other side of Subprime Loans" has been chosen as one of the HUBNUGGETS nominees. Click on this link to read more about it.
http://hubpages.com/hub/HubNuggets-Overloaded Be sure to vote and ask your friends to vote for my hub! :-). It is only because of readers like you who liked my hub, that helped it to get nominated. Thanks.
Wonderful Hub.
Thank you, deestew, for reading and your comments.
Great hub! We think so similarly! I wrote one recently about how your attitude affects your life! Love your hubs.
Hi, miracles: I also enjoy reading yours! Thanks for stopping by. :)
great hub and beautiful pictures! If we as a nation focus on the negative what a sad place we would all be in. You have to be postitive, we have no choice. If you dont stand up for something you will fall for anything. Great writing

Said perfectly. I couldn't agree with you more on the news. I limit what I take in. I may end up putting "parental control" on the news channels to protect my mind from the fear & chaos they present. Like you I do not totally disconnect I simply accept what is, have hope for all, and give myself permission to move forward. Thank you for sharing this!
Fortunerep and Optimistsonly: Glad to find kindred spirits when it comes to focusing on what is positive. Not that one wears rose colored glasses, but in life, being able to be positive has an overall impact on the quality of one's life.
Thanks for reading and adding your thoughts!
Well written and couldn't agree more, it's so nice to know other people think in these terms. I am a optimist by internal nature, and some around me regard it as negative or not being realistic. But inside I am very reasonable and realistic as to life, but I can't help butbe optimistic even when facing my greatest challenges and pains. I have recently began to understand what you
wrote :
"It is not the challenge that really matters, it is how we deal with it; how we perceive it; how attached we are to wanting things to be a certain way; it is this attachment which causes suffering."
I had to figure that out after many tears, and yet it seems silly when I have a picture in my house with one of my favorite sayings "When one door closes another opens somewhere else"
So, thanks for writing I will be reading much more.
aimer la vie: We are in good company, we have so many well known personalities past and present such as Einstein who had wonder for life, and our current teachers such as Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, the Dali Lama, all encourage positivity.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments, adds to the message of this hub.
VioletSun ...this is a beautiful article and I am right with you.
I have been in a business that has enhanced the beauty on the outside for people and now I am enjoying the benefit of helping people beautify the inside of their bodies naturally.
I have always believed in the glass half full.
My father has always encouraged me to believe in myself and always keep trying. His favorite thing to say to me was "get up ...get out of that bed ...the sun is shinning and you are wasting your life there ...find something to do!" So I don't believe in wasting time ...even if it is helping someone or just enjoying nature.
Thank you for sharing and reminding us to stay on the positive path ...my best to your success!
By the way ...love your hair!
Hi, Gcody: So good to see you here. :) Working on the inside and also outside is a beautiful combination to bring out the best in everyone in terms of wholeness and beauty.
Thanks for your comments on my hair, its appreciated as I struggled for years to make it straight and finally surrendered and accepted its curly, except on the ocassion when I may do a straight do, but it doesn't last long, it curls up again.
And my best to your success too!
I have quit watching much news and I don't miss it much, though I do want to keep up with 'happenings'. Just not so much negativity and hate and crime...to absorb into my emotions. I needed your positive comments, and am happy that you have made your way into such fulfillment. We all are still on that journey, and words like these help me be encouraged. Thank you!
Frogyfish: Thanks for your kind words, it encourages me to keep writing. I am still a work in progress, as we all are in this journey we call life. :)
Amazing hub, VioletSun. I am experimenting now with not watching tv at all, except movies I rent. It's easy right now, because it's summer, and in upstate NY, you gotta grab it while it's here! Also everything is repeats. I don't read the newspapers, but do keep up with news via the internet, however I just skim the negative stuff. I don't, after all, want to bury my head in the sand. I have been working on zapping my negative thoughts and replacing them with positive. I really appreciated your writing, it reminded me to do this always. Thanks, and please do keep sharing your gift of enlightenment.
Hi, DoodleLyn: I understand about not wanting to bury your head in the sand, this is exactly how I feel. Its amazing though, even if I don't watch the news, I always know what is going on through the internet or being informed by friends. Wonderful that you are focusing on positive thinking, it does make a difference in one's life.
Thanks for stopping by and your kind comments. :)
I loved this hub, VS. So much of what you've written is the way I choose to live my life, especially the part where you said "It is not the challenge that really matters, it is how we deal with it"
I have run a successful business by myself for the past 15 years. And I almost lost it around 6 months ago because of the economy and Hurricane Ike. I have a bed and breakfast in Louisville, KY. We got the the tail end of Ike here in the form of terrible wind storms (in September). There was a power outage here for three weeks, causing us to lose all of our frozen and refrigerated food products, many, many bookings, our back yard fence and parts of our roof. I lost $11,000 and the insurance company would not pay, as it was a natural disaster.
Then, in December and January, I had zero bookings...absolutely no income, because of the economy. I could have panicked, but something in me wouldn't let me do that. Instead, I "strapped on my boots" so to speak and started doing some creative problem solving. I kept moving forward with positive thought. This month, I have 65% occupancy. Incredible for a small B&B like mine.
You are very inspiring. So glad I found you. I'm also going to check out Gaia. Thanks so much.
Hi VioletSun,
"It is not the challenge that really matters, it is how we deal with it; how we perceive it; how attached we are to wanting things to be a certain way; it is this attachment which causes suffering." Amen!
This reminds me of a story of two men that got into a car accident. The car went off the road and flipped! The first man crawled out of the car and said "why are these things always happening to me? Why is my life such a mess?" The second man leaped from the car and said "WOW I must be the luckiest man alive! Today I'm going to make the most of my life because I was given a second chance!" Same car- same accident- totally different perspective!
Bless You,
Jim
alekhouse: I am so thrilled to meet you! Had little chills while reading your comments, wow, this really inspired me because you are proof we can turn a business around no matter what the economy or natural disaster may be.
We have a beautiful community here of upbeat folks, and the more the merrier. We are not fluffy and like to bury our heads in the sand, like you we do what we have to do, but mantain a empowered focus no matter how scared some of us may get at times.
Success-Guru: Your little story made my eyes wet. Sniff. Its such a clear expample of how perception literally creates our realationship and reality.
Two years ago my s/o and I almost got into an accident, and were stuck in the highway for over 4 hours; I was very calm as was he, we even joked with each other, because we were so grateful nothing happened to us, we were safe and sound, just inconvenienced for the moment.
Thank you both for your comments and beautiful energy!
Yes, a positive life is a happy life. Recently I have learnt to cherish every moment. Also, I believe in the law of attraction and how it changes life.
Happy Gardening, Marty
PS: Thanks for the nice article.
Marty: Thanks for your comments. I also believe in the law of attraction, its always working for for better or worse, even if we are not concious of it.
Love your hubs on gardening by the way.
