Why do people use Social Networks?

A Social Network is a website you can go on and basically talk to your friends online, like in real life. You can keep your friends updated on whatever you're recently doing. Lots of people use them today. Most Social Networks are able to be updated and used while on a Cell Phone, Computer, or even some MP3 players. Anything with a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer). 

Popularity of Social Networks

As of last year over 50% of people living in the United States use or have used a Social Network. With the increase in popularity of Social Networks, less people are using things like Phones, Mail, or Email, mostly because Social Networks are easier. Why would you spend the time to send an Email to five of your friends when you can just go type it in on Twitter and everyone can see it? Want everyone to know about about your latest Scuba Diving trip?  Post it on Twitter, or Facebook, or whatever Social Network you're using.

Face it, no one likes being alone forever. This is why Social Networks really took off. You never have to be alone, you will always have someone to talk to as long as you have an internet connection. People always want everyone to know exactly what they are doing,right then. At least teenagers, from what I've seen. Some people literally post when they eat, brush their teeth, go to school, their grades in school, etc. They always want someone to be there for them.

First, let me make this clear, I don't think Social Networks are all bad, just this aspect of them.

People aren't actually talking to each other anymore, considering they can just tell it to them on a Social Networking website. People need to start actually spending time with each other, not just typing the things they do on Facebook. Human conversation is becoming a lot less used now. A lot of people just use a Social Networking website,or Email. People aren't using mail as much to send letters easier. They are just easily beat by Email, or a Social Networking site, even a private Chat Room.
