Why not switch it up on Easter?
As a child on Easter
As a child Easter was a set tradition. We would color eggs the night before, wake up and find our Easter basket and after we emptied it we would hunt for eggs that the Easter bunny had hidden. After we put on our brand new Easter clothes we would attend a Sunday morning Easter service and then come home and have Easter dinner. It was great but there is not a certain Easter that stands out in my mind. I am just glad that my Mom always made it a special occasion and we always spent it together as a family.
Our Easter Tradition
I pretty much celebrated the same way each year up until the time my husband and I got married. I decided to switch it up for Easter. So that is what we did. It is our tradition to not be traditional on Easter. We still color eggs, give the kids baskets, and they still hunt eggs. We read Easter stories the night before Easter and we also go through a set of plastic eggs that we have that contains little tokens that represent different things about the resurrection and read the story that goes along with each token. But on Easter Day we do something different each year. The first year was "traditional". The second year we went out to eat and then took the kids to see a movie. The third year we had a picnic lunch out of town and went rollerblading. Last year we were invited to go to a family get together for Easter, and since my husband's brother and family were in town from Idaho we decided to break "our tradition" and go. I am glad we did because that is the last Easter we got to spend with my husband's grandmother. She passed away last month. I am glad we got to spend a very special Easter with her. One that we will remember forever.
One thing that my mom did every year was to bake a bunny shaped cake. I have continued that tradition. I hope my children will also. I am not sure what we will do this Easter, but I will make sure to write a hub about it.
