Why you should honeymoon in Hawaii
69Why You Should Honeymoon in Hawaii
Hawaii is the perfect location for a honeymoon. The weather is always great, there are plenty of things to see and do and the people are very friendly. My wife and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon back in 2004 and since then I have been in love with it! I would like to propose to you that Hawaii is the perfect destination for a honeymoon (and even a vacation)!
Here is my list of pros and cons for taking a honeymoon in Hawaii. I also added a list of my most compelling reasons why I think you should honeymoon there. I hope you enjoy them!
Cons for vacationing in Hawaii:
- Finances. It can be fairly pricey to fly out to Hawaii and once you get there it doesn't get much better. The islands have a much higher cost of living compared to the mainlainds. Gas can easily be 2-3x more expensive and even a simple big mac value meal at McDonalds can run you $12-15.
- Rain. Typically, it is either sunny and in the 70s in Hawaii or it's raining. If you don't like rain then you might want to look at other honeymoon destinations (like a cave!).
- Chronology. There is only a time difference of 2 hours from the west coast, but there is a 5 hour time difference from the east coast.
- Flight. My wife and I flew from Virginia so it took us 5-6 hours to get to LA and then another 4-5 to get to Hawaii.
Pros for honeymooning in Hawaii:
- Weather. As mentioned before, it is either sunny and in the 70s or rainy. When it rains, though, there are beautiful rainbows afterward. I posted a picture we took of a magnificent rainbow after a short rain.
- Scenery. Hawaii has the world's most active volcano, TONS of beaches and pools, zoos, museums, ranches and the list goes on. If you can't find something you like there, you have a problem!
- Romance. Let's face it people- you want to find romance on your honeymoon, right? I am not the most romantic person out there by any means, but I found plenty of romantic things to do in Hawaii. Morning beach walks, horseback riding through beautiful Kualoa ranch, romantic swims in private nooks at the beach- they are all possible in Hawaii.
- Activities. There are tons of things to do for every category of person. Adventurer, relax-only kind of guy, movie buff, swimmer, sight seer...Hawaii has it all.
Most compelling reasons why you should honeymoon in Hawaii:
- Show LOST is filmed there! It is filmed primarily on the North Shore and at Kualoa ranch (both of which are on the island of Oahu). In fact, Kualoa ranch also hosted movies/shows such as Jurrasic Park, M.A.S.H., Fifty First Dates, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla and the list goes on.
- In case your parents want to make sure you're okay, you can assure them by showing yourself on the live-feed internet camera! Located on Waikiki beach (and found here: http://www.co.honolulu.hi.us/multimed/waikiki.asp), you can view the beach of Waikiki on Oahu at anytime! There is a slight lag-time, however.
- If I haven't stressed this enough, the weather is perfect! Unless you like snow, freezing rain or blistering hot 100F+ degree weather, you will quickly fall in love with the weather in Hawaii.
In conclusion, Hawaii is by far the best place to honeymoon and/or vacation. I have been to a number of countries in Europe, South America and the Caribbean and they do not compare to Hawaii. I think it's safe to say that your new-found sweetie will love you for suggesting Hawaii as your honeymoon destination! Before writing it off as a viable honeymoon option, give it a chance. Maybe you'll find it as enchanting as I've suggested.

Oh Kat, i'm sorry to hear you didn't take a honeymoon! My parents didn't take one until something like 20 years later! Hawaii is such a beautiful place to visit and it's never too late to vacation there.
True enough - when life and expenses settle down, we intend to travel some and Hawaii is on the list of must-sees!
Beautiful pictures, I recognize the scenery. You two look so romantic.
Thank you singingmommy! It's funny because I'm always looking sharply at videos/movies/pictures that take place in Hawaii. A lot of times I recognize the scenery as well!
Looks like a great place to start married life.
sanssecret, I'd have to agree with you on that one! Hawaii is such a unique place, and I've been to quite a few places in my life since we got free tickets growing up. My dad is an airline pilot...so we traveled frequently.
Aloha
Nice information on Hawaii.
Hawaii is awesome isn't it! I can't wait to get back there.
Thanks. So do you frequent Hawaii for business? When are you going back? I'm so jealous!
No, we just visited family there, but we are moving there in June / July.
Wow, I think my jealousy reached a new height! Which island are you moving to?
been to Hawaii back a couple of years if you think its far from USA mainland try flying from the UK, but well worth the three weeks we spent there and I would go back tomorrow if I could :)
haha I suppose I shouldn't complain that I had to fly from Washington D.C. Yeah I agree, it's beautiful and I'd go back there if I had the $$$.
I honeymooned in Hawaii too, Maui to be exact. It was perfect and I always recomend it to people who are soon to be newlyweds! Beautiful pictures, makes me want to get out my own and look through them.
I don't know if anyone is a fan of the TV show LOST, but tons of scenes were filmed at that ranch in pictures #1 and #3. Everytime I watch the show I am reminded of our honeymoon to Hawaii!
My husband and I went to school and fell in love in Hawaii (Oahu Island). We never got a chance to visit other islands because we were poor college students.
Yes, I hear you on the poor college students thing! The only reason my wife and I were able to go to Hawaii was due to the generosity of her parents, so for that we were (and are) very thankful! Well, at least you visited Hawaii, Jennifer- most can't say they have. Too bad it's not more affordable.
Very nice honeymoon! If you get a chance to get back - I just posted an article you might appreciate nn Oahu. Check it out when you get a chance. Oahu is less rainy than Kauai!
Thanks, Ponderize, I'll stop by and check it out. Yes, Oahu is beautiful- that's where we went for our honeymoon.
I love Hawaii and I miss it very much. My family and I are all form there. I moved away when I was younger but gladly we fly back (when we can afford it) during the summer to visit my family we live on Oahu. It is so much more than a beautifull place, it is the Spirit of Aloha that makes everything there so wonderfull. I am so glad that you have had the oppurtunity to visit our amazing islands. Congrats on your marriage Hope it is filled with alot of Aloha!! (Love)
Thank you for posting here, Kaleihoku. You're absolutely right, there is a welcoming atmosphere always present in Hawaii. Thank you for sharing your expertise and experience with everyone here.
Hawaiian rainbow... it's great it's amazing.. it's thing that bring life.
Thanks for commenting John. Yes the Hawaiian rainbows are just gorgeous!
Thanks for the comment on my hub. I too appreciate the beauty of Hawaii. My family and I took a vacation there about three years ago. I think the things I enjoyed most were the shopping and the food. Both of these can be rather expensive; however, it is well worth it when you are on vacation or holiday.
Very true about the high prices of shopping and food, CMOE, thanks for commenting. We found it hard to eat meals that were decently priced.
I just wrote a Hub on vacation places I consider the most typical for great escapes. I subtitled it Somewhere Over the Rainbow and featured Hawaii, so this Hub is great confirmation for that choice at least! The pictures are wonderful.
Thank you Serenity! I'm a huge sucker for hubs on vacation spots, so I'll have to check yours out. Yes, we have a TON of pictures of rainbows. It seems like everywhere you turned there were rainbows in Hawaii. I guess that's why their ONLY state license plate has a rainbow on it!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Hawaii looks and sounds like a great honeymoon destination. I am currently trying to decide where I should go for my own. I can't decide if I want to go somewhere nice like Hawaii or go to Greece. I will keep Hawaii in mind though, its beautiful there.
The Bride
I've heard Greece is beautiful too. Friends of ours took a cruise and stopped at several islands there to site see and hike. Never been, so I can't recommend it like I recommend Hawaii.
Good luck deciding! Of course if the budget isn't there, the Carribean is a great alternative if you still want to go tropical.
Thanks for that Live feed! very cool! I have placed it in my hub;)
