Worlds Apart - A Poem
Worlds Apart
We share the same space,
occupied by the same body.
Yet when we look through our eyes,
we see such a different view.
It’s almost as if my head and my heart
are in an endless war with each other.
The only casualty in this whole mess
will be my sanity and my breath.
It’s so hard to be lost inside your own body
when it’s all you’ve ever known.
But this disconnect between emotion and reason
is slowly tearing my insides apart.
Where did it all go so wrong
and when did we get so far apart?
It’s almost as if we were never the same
even though we know that’s not true.
I speak in past tense sometimes
just so I don’t confuse my presence.
If my heart and my brain weren’t worlds apart
I wouldn’t be here inside these four white walls.
