Blow Room Machines...
Let's go inside a Textile Mill.
For those who have not seen a Textile Mill this may be interesting to know how cotton is converted to cloth. We start with the first department where Bale cotton received at the Mills is first processed. The Blow Room as it is called so since all the time cotton is blown from one part of the machine to another which sucks the cotton, opens it,cleanse it and sends it to the next part to again clean open further and this operation is continued as per the end use or the process that is needed. All the parts of this line consists of Circular Beater Blades mostly three which may revolve t speeds from 600 to 800 at various parts of the machine. It will not be only Blades but may also be row of needles fixed on blades in two or three rows.Again there may be no blades or needles but only air passing over knife edges. The cotton is opened, cleaned by these points. The trash in cotton will fall below the beater points where grids or perforated sheets in circular form to allow the trash which escapes cleaning at the Ginning Mills is taken out in this machine. The trash that falls at various places gets collected automatically by a separate unit and is bundled. The Air Speed,Beaters speeds and the process settings removes 95% of the impurities in cotton.Any fiber like material that is not cotton like hair or jute gets collected in a unit that is a part of this long line of machines as long as 100 feet less or even more depending on the type of cotton. We are discussing here only pure cotton and not any blends. The process for blends of cotton with man made fibers is not very different.Cotton is of three types namely course, medium and fine. The textile Mills procure the machines as per the type of cotton that they process.
The cotton comes out of Blow Room in sheet form rolled in to fixed lengths.( It is also sent to the next department in open form in specific cases by air section and this depends on types of products and planning at the mills ).It is not only length but the weight is also fixed over the entire length and it is controlled in every meter and in every meter every centimeter.A special electronic senser does this job.The person in charge of Quality monitors this weight per meter at given intervals or at random intervals.A recorder is maintained and can be checked at any given point of time. This check is 24X7 as long as the machine works. The production of this machine is around 1600 KG per hour.85% of this is yarn if it is of course quality that is programmed. It will be 75% in case it is programmed to make a superior cloth. However the actual production may be even less if no control is exercised. The cotton in sheet form or in opened form goes to the next department. We go to that department called ' Carding'.
