Yorkipoo Hybrid Dogs

The Yorkipoo, also known as a Yorkiedoodle or a Yorkie-Poo is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Miniature or Toy Poodle. A Yo-Yopoo is a cross between a first generation Yorkiepoo and a Yorkshire Terrier, resulting in a slightly more Yorkie look with the wavy coat and lower shedding potential of the Poodle.

The Yorkiepoo is one of the hybrid dog breeds that can come in a variety of colors. Common colorations include fawns, blue and tan, black, blue-gray, tri-colors, reds, silver, red and white, black and white and apricot in coloration. Coats are typically silky to the touch with very fine hair, almost like human hair in texture. The coat can be very long to moderately long and can be clipped or left natural.

The face of the Yorkiedoodle is very refined with a tapered muzzle, bright alert eyes and longer ears that fold over to frame the face. When left natural the muzzle is covered with a longer beard and the eyebrows can be rather pronounced, addition to the expressions this small dog can show.The body is solid and the dogs are very athletic and capable of lots of activity and exercise. A Yorkipoo typically carries is moderately long tail high or curled slightly over the rump.

As with most smaller hybrid dog types, the Yorkiepoo really loves to be around people. They do very well with children provided the children are old enough to handle the dog and to not tease. The Yorkipoo is fun loving and playful, remaining very puppy-ish into its senior years. Some Yorkiedoodles can be somewhat independent at times and they may have a tendency to be dominant. Routine training and early socialization will eliminate this from being an issue.

Like a purebred, this canine hybrid can develop some bad habits if not trained and socialized. They may have a tendency to become problem barkers if they are left alone for long periods of time. In the terrier in them can make them prone to chasing cats, squirrels and birds so they do need to be kept on a leash or in a fenced yard.

All dogs needs some type of routine grooming and long haired hybrid dogs need a bit more than short haired breeds. Some of the Yorkiepoos, especially the first generation crosses, may be lower shedding dogs and may even be suitable for owners with mild to moderate dog allergies. Yo-Yopoos are less likely to by hypoallergenic but each person is slightly different in their sensitivity levels.

Grooming can be completed with a pin brush or grooming comb two to three times every week. Trimming or clipping the coat can cut down on grooming requirements. The eyes need to be monitored for any signs of excessive tearing or infections. Wash the eyes with a damp cloth during grooming and also start a routine dental care program at home.
