Mumbled Memories

by Annette Gagliardi

Mumbled moments
    obstinately tenacious,
cling to what’s left of my mind.

Mystery memories
    half-gone in a twinkling,
        emerge as my life unwinds.

Mention the name
    of my lover and spouse
and hope that I catch it in time.

Touch me just so
    as if you must go,
And I’ll whisper that I will be fine.

this poem is about dementia and the effects of lost memories.

How much memory can we loose before we just loose it all together?
