Recognizing Capricorn

You are at a party...full of charming, aggressive, flashy, and brilliant personalities...so which one is the Capricorn? Take a good look around - see that calm, quiet gal in the back, surveying the scene? That's her! At first glance you might think that everyone else has more of a chance at being successful, but you would be wrong.

Other signs often make the mistake of thinking that Capricorn isn't up to the challenge - that they don't have the charisma, polish, or, heaven forbid, the smarts to succeed. Saturn children can appear as harmless and gentle as a spring breeze - but that same breeze can topple barns, depending on its intensity.

Capricorn is not pushy, or aggressive - disliking the obviously garish and attention seeking displays of other signs, preferring instead gentle persuasion, often unconsciously blending into the background. Behind the scenes, he is free to observe the inner workings of any situation, make his improvements, and go on to win the race. Goats may look like pushovers, but they aren't - so keep your 'Brooklyn Bridge' to yourself - you won't find a buyer here!

Physical attributes

It isn't always easy to recognize the physical attributes of this sun sign. Capricorn can be stocky and muscular, soft and plump or thin and wiry, but regardless of their shape, the goat gives us the impression that he is rooted to the earth, until he decides to move to another spot. They generally have fine straightish hair - darker coloured, or dark blonde, this being the Saturn influence, and Dresden china-like skin.

Most Capricorns have capable hands, strong feet, wear sensible shoes, have calm deliberate actions, and gentle, soothing voices. You will also notice a gentleness that flatters and persuades - what better way to remove obstacles, win friends and influence people.

The Saturn temperment

This sign looks so gentle and unassuming, and yet is tough as nails! Relentlessly persistent, Capricorn digests insults, obstacles, pressures, duty and disappointments as calmly as their real life goat counterparts digest tin cans, broken glass and cardboard. Like him, they have cast iron stomachs and dangerous horns - if you don't believe me, try butting heads with one sometime!

While the other signs scatter their energies hither and yon, Capricorn never deviates from his appointed path, steadily following it upwards, secure in his inbred faith of the well traveled road, and spurning the pitfalls disguised as enticing short cuts.

Saturn children have enormous respect and admiration for those who have preceded them up the mountain - written the rules of the journey, and made it to the top. They respect authority, honour tradition and court success. Unjustly dubbed snobbish and stuffy by energetic, impulsive people, goats wisely resist the urge to retaliate - they are much too savvy to make unnecessary enemies or burn their bridges. This doesn't mean they don't think about it - they just don't act on it!

Instead, the Saturn born will submit, agree, and adapt - but do they really? Capricorn will allow others to walk in front yet more often than not, he defies logic by arriving first. He is careful to avoid obstacles and seldom stumbles. He keeps his gaze firmly ahead, not on the stars, and his feet are planted firmly on the ground.

Jealousy, passion, anger, impulse, frivolity, laziness, waste and carelessness are all obstacles to be avoided, not tripped over. He will glance behind him with sadness for the failures, or with grateful tribute for past advice and help, but he will continue on his sure-footed way towards his goal until it's reached.

Typical Saturn children never allow their emotions to blind them to the facts. That hauntingly beautiful poem of unrequited love, that is filled, by the way, with deep seated personal emotion, will have a solid frame, excellent story line and correct punctuation! Some of the best literary editors and writers are Capricorns!

If you are courting a goat's friendship, it would be wise to stick to conventions if you want his respect. Capricorn - including the rare daring ones, observe the trappings of social acceptability. Raw displays of uncontrolled passion and public scenes disturb them. This fact by no way insinuates that the goat isn't passionate - far from the truth! Saturn children are very passionate and loving - they just don't shout it from the rooftops!

These people have been known to do strange things for security. Old age is always on their minds - having almost an Asian influence with regards to family responsibilities and elders. You might say that Saturn youngsters have an affinity for ancestors and a respect for wisdom of age and experience. They will happily visit Uncle Fred or Great Aunt Martha, enjoying the comfort and familiarity of family ties - and who knows - there might be some stocks and bonds, or property lying around in the attic somewhere, and you wouldn't want the family fortune going 'to the dogs' as it were! This might seem cold and calculating, but to practical Capricorn, it's sensible. Opportunity never has to knock twice at the door of a goat - he has been leaning against it listening for the rat-a-tat-tat!

Because the goat's strength and resistance to disease increases with age, and his sober nature gives him amazing endurance and such potential for survival, it isn't unusual for him to live past the century mark. You would think that with all this natural ability, Capricorn would be able to avoid doctors and hospitals, however, they don't. Fear, worry, uncertainty and gloom are worse than germs to the goat. No amount of diet, habit, or even his stubborn resistance to illness can overcome pessimism.

Saturn born need to cultivate outdoor activities and develop a more positive, outgoing personality if they want to avoid ill health. The countryside and fresh breezes of tolerance will do wonders for the goat's health. Almost all Capricorns have sensitive skin, possible allergies, stomach disorders from incompatible foods and some type of mental distress - usually depression. Generally speaking - if Capricorn can avoid the lingering illnesses caused by lingering depressions, they will live to a very ripe old age!

In conclusion

Earthy Capricorn is a shy, sweet soul with a stubborn streak...but he's gentle about it. Such a safe person to trust and confide in - harmless really - pleasantly building your ego - who could suspect such a pillar of strength and support of being ambitious? He is so helpful, and eventually so indispensable, that it naturally falls to him to take over the reins. He will rule quietly from the corner, submerging his ego to gain what he truly desires - the position of real leadership.

The goat doesn't need to lead the brass bands or a three ring circus - he quietly gives permission and plans the route from behind the scenes, providing the safety net for minor miscalculations. With kindly, but cautious wisdom and solid practicality, he guards the past from neglect, the present from confusion and works tirelessly at building a safe and secure tomorrow. Walk softly through his silent forest, feel the carpet of soft moss between your toes and marvel at his lush, beautiful climbing ivy, content that this sign above all, is solid and eternal.

However I believe Capricorns are people born approximately between Jan 14 to Feb 14th. Check it out and they will match characteristic more than traditional dates given.

Take care and have a happy life.

Great hub...I love reading about how the signs influence our bodies and personalities! However, as I read about Capricorn, I am reminded that I must be strongly influenced by my other aspects...I'm certainly not a pure Cappy!

Thanks again for your wonderful posts, Debi
