What to do if you find that your engine is overheated?

It's the summer and you may haven't added any engine coolant since along time ago. If you notice that the temperature indicator is on the overheating zone, try the following steps:

1- Stop your car in a safe place.

2- Be careful if the steam is coming from the engine room, stop the engine and wait until the steam stops.

3- Ventilate the engine by raising the bonnet. Never open it while steam is coming out, steam could have blown off the reverse tank cap, the steam and water can be very hot and cause burns.

4- Do NOT try to remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot, wait until the temperature is reduced.

5- If the cooling fan is not running, stop the engine immediately.

6- Be careful not to get your hands or clothes (scarf, shirt, etc) caught in the cooling fan.

7- Stop the engine after the engine's temperature has dropped to the normal level.

8- Check the coolant reserve tank for the fluid level. It should be between the L (Low) and F letters (Full)in most cars.

9- If the level is decreased, add coolant to the radiator. Be careful not to add it while the engine is hot. Add coolant to the reverse tank too.

10- Check the radiator for any leakage and the drive belt for looseness or damage.

Drive safely!

:)
