Looking for a cheap DSL connection? Compare what the ISPs have to offer.
When comparing internet service providers, it isn't always the price that matters. The reliability of the service is what you should research more on. That's being said, here's a list and links to the websites of the top ISPs in the US where you can find more information about the packages they offer, their pricing and the speed of they offer.
Note that most packages will include software add-ons like anti-spyware, antivirus and anti-spam software. You'd be better off using other available packages like McAffee rather than use the one from the ISP. Since they are just add-ons, you won't expect these add-on software to be as good as the stand-alone versions available outside of the ISP.(Trust me, I used to work as a Technical Rep for a top ISP in the US).
If you really don't want to spend on security software, you can use free versions like the one from AVG which is a pretty good free security software. You can get the free version here.

These ISPs are rated based on the number of subscriptions. It's very easy to switch ISPs nowadays so you can only assume that those with the most subscribers are the ones with the best service. That is just an assumption. Different customers will have different experiences on their ISP service depending on the alignment of the planets. =)
