Couch Cushion Remote Controls

When I first saw this product, all I thought was pillows with TV remote symbols stitched into them. I did not know who would want those as decoration, unless you are into television iconography on a religious scale. If the symbol for on/off is your cross, then I suppose there is a market for this.

Little did I know that these pillows, designed by Didier Hihorst and Nicholas Zambetti, are actually fully functional remote controls for your television. That's right, that pillow with the power signal turns your TV on, and the plus and minus ones go up and down the channels. I guess it is obvious that the last one is a volume control.

This is one of those ideas that I can't decide whether it is a good idea or a bad idea. I can only think of one good idea category. Considering that I lose my remote on a daily basis, it would be nice to have a backup. After all, these cushions don't look easy to lose.

However, I can think of so many jokes about these Couch Cushion Remote Controls, that I could make a top ten list. For example, I can't begin to count how many times that my television watching has been interrupted because I stepped on or sat on the remote. These products actually encourage me to do this, so you can imagine how much your TV watching will be fouled up. And you can forget about pillow fights with these guys. Your television will not know what to think.

Imagine using one of these cushions as a pillow for when you fall asleep in front of the TV. Ideally, you would sleep on the power one, and save energy by clicking the TV off when you take a snooze. However, you could easily sleep on the channel surfing pillow, and that could result in some very sporadic dreams. One of my source articles mentioned that you'll probably sleep on the volume pillow, and crank your TV up so loud it will either wake you up or your neighbors, depending on how heavy a sleeper you are. There had better be a way to disable these pillows.

Well, if you're going to do this, then you are going to have to go all way. I don't know about you, but my remote is more complicated than power, channels, and volume control. Have you seen those DVR remotes? They need to make several pillows that can anticipate those commands. So will they make one pillow for the button commands?

That could lead to a couch with so many cushions, that you wouldn't see it. Then instead of trying to find the remote, you'll be looking for a particular part of the remote. Yeah, I'm starting not to look fondly on the Couch Cushion Remotes.
