Free Earth Day and Environmental Clip Art

Earth Day began way back on April 22, 1970, but few would argue we need it now more than ever. It started in response to the growing problem of air pollution created by cars and factories, which was just beginning to be linked to disease and death. Now we have even bigger global environmental issues. So although every day should be Earth Day for each of us, it's also good to have a day when everyone collectively puts their focus on Mother Earth.
I can testify to the air pollution problem in the 1970s. I grew up in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley, and nowhere was the air pollution problem worse than there. Because the Valley is shaped like a bowl and protected by mountains almost all around, smog would settle in and get trapped. We had frequent smog alerts and some days it was actually hard to breathe. The activism that came from that first Earth Day actually made a huge impact. Within a decade, the smog problem was starting to lessen and it's much better today than it was back then. I haven't been there for a while but I imagine the Valley is still benefiting from the work done from early Earth Day activists.
I hope you find many uses for this Earth Day clip art and that it inspires people to remember that it's our job to take care of the planet.

Hi, I love your clipart and a lot would look great as pin badges. I'd love you use them on our site with your permission. I'd put a comment saying where the image came from and a link back to these pages.
Let me know your thoughts and keep up the good work! I'm off to try this picnic software.
Hi, Mike. These would make great badges! It's fine with me that you use the images, as long as you provide a link to both this page and to Picnik. It would be nice if you paid for a Picnik subscription too. (It's only $25 per year or so.) I don't have any official affiliation with them, I just always like to do what's fair. It looks from your comment that you're that way too. :-)
