Improving your Engine Performance with ECU Remapping.

Updated on June 26, 2011

In simple terms ECU is called as electronic control unit technology and there are a lot of reputed ECU remapping specialist brands around the world but in India, till now only three ECU remap options are available. One is Pete’s remap from custom code and the other is race chips. Also a recently famous rally driver/tuner N. Leelakrishnan launched his own tuning company under the brand name, Red Rooster. It is the same name which participates in INRC by the name of Red Rooster Racing. Leela, as he is known fondly in racing circuits, has been one of the greatest names in Indian rallying and has won various championships in his career.

So today you have mainly three reputed options for remapping ECU of cars in India and those are.

  • Pete's Custom Code
  • Red Rooster Tuning
  • Race Chips

Cost of Remapping ECU of Cars in India

The cost of ECU remap in India starts at around 70,000 INR and goes up to around 3 lakhs INR depending on the capacity of engine, level of tuning, and remapping brand. Now, all the three brands mentioned above specialize in different kind of ECU remaps. For example Pete’s is more strong in diesel ECU remap whereas Red Rooster Tuning is a specialist in petrol remap, mostly turbo petrol ones.

Also, it is almost impossible to remap a diesel vehicle with an engine capacity of less than 1500 cc, so forget about remapping if you have a Maruti Swift VDi or a Hyundai i20 Diesel. For both these cars, your only option left is installing a tuning box which I mentioned in the previous article – Best Diesel Tuning Box for Increased Power and Torque for Cars.

In petrol, the option starts at 1300 cc and above though it is a known fact that the more the cc, the better the possibility to remap the engine and subsequently better results. But remember, ECU remap has to have free flow air filter as its partner if you really want to reap all the benefits out of ECU remap. Also, K&N manufactures high performance air filters. Even Magnum free flow air filters are very popular, so if you have spare money and want to have an edge over others on the road, then go to your ATM, withdraw money, and enjoy the mad rush of pushback effect when you get the remap done and take off with the aroma of burning rubber. Nothing beats the pleasure of sheer performance.
