Famous Homeschoolers Throughout History
Famous Homeschoolers Throughout History
Did you know that some very famous people were homeschooled?
Throughout the course of history, there have been a lot of famous people who have been homeschooled. These people have then gone on to become artists, inventors, scientists, statesmen, writers, religious leaders, Supreme Court justices, musicians and even American presidents. With this in mind, those people who believe that they should not homeschool their child because it makes it harder for them to become successful are clearly wrong. Instead, this is simply another one of those many myths that the public school system would like you to believe so that they can keep receiving their money for each child that is enrolled in their school system. They do not want you to remove your child from the school system because they will then lose money.
To begin with, there are numerous famous writers, from around the world, who have been homeschooled. These include C.S. Lewis, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Pearl S. Buck, Hans Christian Andersen and Helen Beatrix Potter. C. S. Lewis went on to mention his homeschooling experience throughout the "Chronicles of Narnia" series and Helen Beatrix Potter decided that she did not need a formal education. Throughout her life, she was always very interested in learning and studying about plants and animals. She even stated that she felt as though she was able to learn more from her own self-study then from any textbook that she had ever read. While a lot of people thought that she was an an amateur artist because she did not attend a traditional school, her books and the characters are just as popular today as they were when she first wrote them. They include Peter Rabbit, Mr. Tod, Benjamin Bunny, Jeremy Fisher and many others.
Some of the other famous homeschoolers that you may not know of include:
Frank Lloyd Wright only attended a traditional classroom for 4 years (between the ages of 11 and 15) because he started attending the University of Wisconsin as a "special student" when he turned 15-years-old. Prior to this time he was homeschooled. While at the University of Wisconsin, he majored in engineering since there were no architecture courses available, at the time. Nevertheless, he still went on to become a very famous architect.
John Adams began attending Harvard University when he was 15-years-old. Prior to that he learned to read at home and then did some studying with a local neighbor who served as a tutor. After graduating from Harvard, John Adams went on to become the 2nd President of the United States. Of course, there were other United States presidents that were homeschooled. These include Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Benjamin Franklin.
Numerous celebrities have also been homeschooled. These include Whoopi Goldberg, Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Charlie Chaplin.
There are a lot of famous people who were homeschooled at one point in their lives. If I were to list all of the famous people who had ever been homeschooled, it would make for a rather long list.
