There are two main types of Gluteoplasty procedures.

1. The lifting of the buttocks
2. Enlargement of the buttocks using synthetic implants

1. The Brazilian Butt Lift

The Brazilian Butt lift involves reshaping of the butt using fat injections. It is both an additive and subtractive process. Fat is removed from target areas, purified and then replaced into other areas of the buttocks. This process is also known as "fat grafting."

2. Butt Implants

This process is similar to the more commonly known breast implant procedure. A silicone based implant is inserted into the either the lower or upper buttock depending on which aspect you which to reshape and enhance. Since the buttocks are a working part of the body that have to stand up to significant stress the implant is significantly stronger than a traditional breast implant.

The Silicone implant process:

Asurgeon makes a small incision of 2 or 3 inches between the buttocks, right inside the midline. Through this cut , he makes a pocket inside each buttock and places the silicone gel implants inside each one of them.

There are two possible locations for the implants, depending on how the patient would like the buttocks reshaped.

Submuscular: Most commonly, a patient has sufficient volume in the lower region of the buttocks and wishes to enhance the upper buttocks, if so, the implants will be located beneath the buttock muscle (gluteus maximus), this is the area where jeans pockets would be.

Subfascial: If you would like to enhance the lower part of the buttocks and the upper part has sufficient volume, the implants will be located between the buttock muscle and its fascia

Hospitalization:

You can leave the hospital as soon as 4 to 6 hours after the surgery.

Anesthesia: Anesthesia may be local, epidural, or general,
