HONEY

Honey is a natural healer that has multi purpose use in our daily lives. Take it in its original state, good. Mix it with other substance, better. One problem that is common is the problem of identifying an original honey. Because of the value of honey, people have resolved to mixing honey with sugar in order to get more content. This problem can however be overcome by your ability to identify original honey.

YOU CAN IDENTIFY ORIGINAL HONEY BY EITHER METHOD

WATER METHOD: because honey is a form of oil, it cannot dissolve in water. Get a glass of clean water, dip your finger into the supposed honey and drop it into the glass of water. Watch it, if it settles right at the bottom of the cup without colouring the water, then you have got your self an undiluted original honey, but, if the other way round, don’t use it as this may cause more harm than good.

FIRE METHOD: still based on the fact that honey is a form of oil, it cannot prevent matches from sparking out fire. So, soak your matches with the honey you bought and scratch it against the box, if it doesn’t spark, then that is an adulterated honey you have got, but, if it does spark, go ahead and use it as that is the original honey you have got.

Other ways of identifying an original honey

The ant method: some people test honey by leaving one or two drops in areas where ants are known to dwell and observe the outcome. If the ants cluster the honey, then, it has been adulterated but, if not clustered, it has not been mixed with any other substance.

Smell method: experts identify original honey by its smell; I don’t recommend this method for everyone.

Taste method: this is similar to the smell method. You can tell an original honey from fake through the smell. Again, it is not for everyone.

GINGER (zingiber officinale)

Ginger is a multi-purpose root-herb that has been in existence since time immemorial. Ginger can be used alone or mixed with other substance to be medicinal. When sprinkled on food, ginger can help reduce gas level of food. Ginger when mixed with garlic acts as a natural antibiotic.

BITTER KOLA (GARCINIA KOLA)

People of the old long realized the importance of bitter kola and made it a generally acceptable way of welcoming your visitors. The medicinal power of bitter kola cannot be neglected. It helps reduce blood pressure, sugar level and it also help relief cough especially at the early stage. To get the best result from bitter kola as far as cough, catarrh and cold are concerned, roast the bitter kola, grind it to powder and mix with original honey.

LIFE PLANT (BRYOPHYLLUM PINNATUM)

This plant has many names, some of which are; never die plant, life plant, resurrection plant, etc. It got all these names from the fact that the plant can survive almost any kind of weather and environment.

A mixture of all these herbs have shown to be an effective remedy for cough, cold flu and catarrh in Nigeria. A group of researchers from EdoState in Nigeria came up with herbal cough syrup. You can add onion to this herbal mixture to add more efficacies to it.

This herbal syrup out performs so many over the counter cough syrup for children. Parents can use these herbal mixtures to reduce nighttime cough in children.

Herbal mixture has come to stay as an alternative medicine in this our modern day society. I have no doubt that the content of this hub will do you and your children a lot of good, not only in the area of cough and other influenzas but in other areas of your family health and healthy living.
