No TV Diet
68The No TV Diet
What in the world is the No TV Diet?
Well, its a special diet that I've devised that is guaranteed to help a person lose several pounds quickly. It actually does not include any special set of foods that you must eat, nor does it specifically enforce any particular exercise routine so there is no need for any specialist fitness exercise equipment. Oh yeah, bring it on...
This in itself makes it a very easy diet and weight loss program to follow. Why?
Because you won't be watching any more programs, or more importantly, the mind numbing ads that are interspersed within them. How is this going to happen?
You're going to throw out your TV!

Throw Out The TV?
Yes, you heard right. You simply throw out the TV and if you have more than one of them in the house, then shame on you - throw them all out! For this diet to work, you have to live in a TV FREE HOUSE!
Can you do that?
Can anyone do that?
I dare you. No, I double dare you!
Can you imagine what life would be like without that intelligence sapping, mind dulling, life sucking monster hogging the best spot in your room? Well can you?
What would it be like to get up in the morning and not have to listen to the relentless yabber of some damn salesman trying to sell you something? Oh, they do alright! They are constantly trying to sell you a new car or some insurance or personal loan or this or that latest gadget or the local supermarket's special offers. Its all being thrust down your throats every moment that box is switched on and you don't even realise it.
In between and during every TV show you watch there are ads. Fact.
They are not there just to break up the show or to give you a chance to talk about the last 15 minutes you just watched either. They are there because the advertisers know they will sell you something. Fact.
And if you are overweight, guess what you take more notice of? Yep, ads for food! Fast food, junk food, cakes, sweets, chocolates, candies, pre-prepared crap that you throw in a microwave and eat without even tasting, its all splashed across the screen in front of your eyes and in your ears and its all designed to make you WANT what they're showing you.
And it works!
Not only that, but it works so well that with the right kind of ad, you can sell just about anything to your gullible audience of millions of TV watchers, simply because you've all already been brainwashed into an affinity with the ads. FACT!
Don't believe me?
Try to spend an evening without switching the TV on at all. Just sit there on your sofa or chair and look at it just like you would normally. See how long you can stand it before you have to get up and either switch it on or go do something else.
Tough isn't it?
I'll bet you're almost addicted to watching the thing, because you will feel some withdrawal symptoms if you have to sit there and stare at the blank screen for any length of time.
Yet you can sit there motionless for hours watching all the garbage that the TV churns out at you just so that somewhere in there you'll catch 45 minutes of a decent show or even a good 5 year old movie. Great.
Can you live without that?
Of course you can, but you'll need to be strong willed and determined to break away from its iron grip, because whether you believe it or not, you are in the grip of an addiction with the TV. It will feel strange to be without the TV at first. But believe it or not, you will get used to it.
You will find other things to do with all that time you used to waste sitting in front of it. Because you'll come to realise that you only get this one life and that it is relatively short and there is so much more to do that you'll never do if you don't break away from it.

So How Does The No TV Diet Work?
The No TV Diet is very simple in that after a short period of time without a TV in the house you will begin to lose the cravings for all the junk food you used to see advertised on there each day. You begin to realise how bad it really is for you and you'll want to start researching more about our modern TV fuelled force fed processed foods that are only popular because the TV makes them popular.
You'll start avoiding fast food burger and pizza chains and start reading the labels on stuff in the supermarket. Think about it, this is one of the best weight loss tips you'll ever hear! You'll begin to open your eyes to the true horrors that these manufacturers are fooling the masses into ingesting. The fizzy drinks (sodas) that are slowly killing you and your kids with all their addidtives.
The weight gaining mountain of sugar that these junk foods and other processed foods contain. And if they don't contain a mountain of sugar, they have even worse horrors for you and your children in artificial sweeteners such as saccharin, aspartame and sorbitol - all of which can lead to cancer, especiallt aspartame which was actually banned in the US but reinstated only after continued pressure levied upon congress by the food industry, not because it was deemed to be any safer.
But that's a story for another site...
You'll start buying fresh food and cooking and preparing it yourself for your family. Your kids will start to calm down and their behaviour will improve as the levels of toxins and artificial colourings and flavourings are slowly removed from their bodies. Better believe it because its true.
You and yoru fanily will begin to see some weight reduction simply because of the switch from crap food to good, additive free home cooked food.
But the big change will come from having all that extra time om your hands every single day of your lives. You can spend it however you want but you'll be compelled to do something useful with it.
Like getting out of the house, for one. You'll actually feel like going for a walk, or getting the bikes out of the garage and going for a cycle somewhere. You might wat to visit that new sports centre (or the old one that you never eben know existed) and have a swim, or get involved with some friends and play some sports. Tennis, badminton, volley ball... the choices are many and varied.
Guess what that exercise will do for you?
Yep, it will make you lose weight. Pure and simple.
Summing Up
The average family spends something like a staggering 4 or more hours a day watching TV. That's 28 hours a week, or more than one full day a week of your life wasted - week in and week out. I
In a year, thats around two months of your life wasted. Every year. Think on that.
By getting rid of the TV, you get back two months of your life every year to do some, well,,, living!
Out of that four previously wasted hours a day, even if you spent one hour of it getting some exercise simply by walking, running, cycling, swimming or playing some sports you will lose weight. The other three hours could be spent enriching your lives in other ways.
Such as studying a new topic of interest, learning somethimng you didn't already know. Reading books and using your imagination (something the TV deprives you of). Creating something like a new garden area or building a shed or outhouse. Going out to evening classes to maybe learn a new language or how to do something you don't already know how to do.
The possibilities are endless and are made possible by you having more time to yourself of an evening all because you are no longer a slave to the TV.
Oh, and you'll live longer too, being healthie, fitter and no longer overweight.
Think that might be a good change to make in your life? I did.

LOL - does this mean that if I got rid of the TV I could still have my chocolate? This is sounding promising. It might even have worked a year or so ago - but now I have wireless internet and a laptop to use in front of the TV!
In fact when we were travelling we rarely had a TV and it was surprising how little we missed it - and also amazing how many people go camping with a TV but that's a whole other hub!
I've never been much of a TV watcher but when I moved to Spain I just didn't bring one and didn't miss it one bit. I made me realise what a waste of time TV really is! If I hear about a really good movie that I want to see, hell I go to the cinema and make a night out of it!
Yep, we all know TV is evil but I find really crappy TV shows relaxing -remember Mind Your Language - so bad.. One diet that would fail for me. Like as everyone mentioned, when I am away I don't miss it but at home I have a bad habit of having the TV on all the time - even when I am upstairs, the Tv is blasting away downstairs .. sad isn't it.
And now it is worse - my mobile phone has 33 TV channels on it now, so I have to watch whether I want to or not!
Ha! I guess it won't be long before some boffin figures out how to hard-wire those 33 TV stations into our brains so we'll never be able to switch off - Ok yeah, reality TV crap with ads for Sunny Delight 24/7 oh joy...
How about unplugg the computer diet. My family spends more time surfing the web than watching tv these days
Love it! Whatever happened to books...?

I didn't realize I was on your diet! In 2001 I moved and didn't take my tv with me. It wasn't until 2003 that I moved again and had a tv set. Trouble was, I still had the internet. :-P
