Benefits of Short Hair Over Long Hair

So, if I had to choose, I'd choose short hair. Although, my first short hair style was purely an accident, I love it. Now, I did grow it out and then cut it back short again, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to stick with short hair.
Personally, I can come up with more reasons to have short hair than long, so below you will find all of my reasons for short hair over long hair.
Now, there are different reasons for different people to have short or long hair. I'm going to attempt to cover as many reasons as I can to having short hair. If I miss anything, please add it to the comment box at the bottom of the page. It's there, use it for good.

Having A Short Hair Style
The pros (for me) of having short hair include (in no particular order):
- Easier to fix in the morning or when you're going out.
- Less time to spend washing and drying.
- Not only easier to fix, but it takes less time to fix when you're getting ready.
- Few to no tangles to deal with.
- Uses less, if any hair, products to get it to stay in place and look good throughout the day.
- I want to repeat, less tangles to deal with, so people can run their hands through it without pulling out or getting fingers stuck in your hair.
- People can focus on your face and not the mass of hair on your head.
Long Hair Styles
Having a Long Hair Style
The cons (for me) to having long hair include the following (in no particular order):
- TANGLES
- Takes longer to make sure that you get all the shampoo and conditioner out of your hair in the shower.
- Harder to get it to look good before you go out.
- Takes longer to work with and fix.
- Typically, needs more hair products (hair spray, gel, etc.) to get it to look right.
- Uses more product (hair spray, gel, shampoo, conditioner, dye, etc.) for general up- keep, so end you end up spending more to keep long hair looking good.
- Easy to mess up throughout the day.
- Split ends.
- Frizzy hair during nasty days.
- Easy to get caught in earrings, clothes, jewelry, etc.
- Random loose hairs all over.
- Really bad hair during bad weather, strenuous acts, exercising, wind, etc.
- Some salons charge extra to cut and style long hair.
- It hides your beautiful face. haha

nice points, however, why is it everytime I cut my hair, I don't feel as sexy as when I have long hair? I wonder if this is biological thinking, I just feel so much older...by the way you hair cut does look sexy Whitney, perhaps I should reconsider! lol! My hair is shorter in my pic, but that was 3 years ago, need an update i know and hair cut!
I always love your hubs. You look great with short hair. I think my tastes change with the styles.
Im in my mid 40's and growing my hair for the first time in nearly 20 years. My partner has been on at me for ages - and I figured if I didn't do it now I would neve rdo it - older women with long hair rarely look good IMHO. There are some downsides to it though - and I will post a relevant hub in the next day or 2 !
I wore my hair long,down to my waist, for 25 yrs. When I cut it very short I was amazed that I had gone so long suffering through the long list of CONS you mentioned above. One you did not mention was keeping complete strangers from trying to touch your hair in public. That happened to me so many times and it was very creepy! C.S.
I agree there are more benefits of having short hair but had short hair most of my life bc of hair dresser screwups. Finally, hair!!!! LOL I love your short haircut on you best Whitney but you are a very pretty lady either way.
Having no hair, I really just laugh at all the struggles of you hair people. :P
In all seriousness though, I think it comes down to face shape and bone structure. You clearly have the bone structure for short hair. Some can't pull off the look and end up looking like an acorn tipped over into their neck or perhaps even a mushroom.
Anyway, nicely done but I think your poll, like SweetiePie's needs, an option for no-hair. lol
If I had hair like yours Whitney, I'd have it short, too. Doesn't work well with naturally curly hair.

I've had short hair since the 80s. I have very fine, straight hair that just hangs. It looked good when I was a pre-teen and teenager but not after.

Thanks guys! I love short hair. Right now it's a little longer than the picture above. I have it long in the front to cover my ears, as I'm only supposed to have 2 per ear, and I refuse to take anything out while at work... Only irritates things. It's different. I just can get a good picture.
Nice hub. I really love short hair too. When I was a kid, my mom wouldn't let me have short hair. (She enjoyed doing my hair way too much.) Since I turned 15, I have always kept my hair short. And I'll probably keep it short forever!
Great Hub I feel that men are better with short hair. But I am not sure what I prefer on women. A lot of woman look good either way.
You look great with short hair but I would like to see you with really long hair. I am not so wild about that intermediate look (not only on you but all females in general) LOL. Really I think that hair is primarily about hair care. How it looks, how it shines etc.
Much like Shades I have very litttle hair to speak of and keep it close cropped in the modern(?) style. Not quite shaved and polished Yul Brynner style
Perspective is everything, right? I tend to feel I have to do MORE work styling my hair when it is short than when it is long. The biggest con for long hair that I will absolutely agree with is the shedding - my hair is everywhere!
dineane, I sort of agree that there is the possibility of more to do with short hair, but I was actually thinking about it, and with long hair, you can do ponytail, pigtails, curly, flipped out on the ends, curled under, straight, etc. That's the only good thing about long hair I think.
You'll be pretty in everyway, but imagine other girls having the same short hair (other than Keira Knightly and you)...Idon't think they'll look that good. I prefer a girl with the 'Long Hair Hairstyles'.
I don't like seeing really short hair on a woman, but then I don't like seeing long hair on a guy. I'm sort of traditional in that respect.
Your hair looks fabulous short!!! It makes you look TONS more confident, sexy, smart, pretty, interesting, modern, outgoing... loads of personality.
Long hair just makes people look like trapped housewives... :)
