For ages, no matter to which nation they belong, women in general have been suffering from agony, distress, discrimination, apathy. The tormentor turns out to no one but their own family, friends and fellow humans. Every nation has a sordid story of women discrimination behind it. No doubt, the position and status of the women of today has imporved quite significantly, however, women continue to suffer in general even now. One example is my own INDIA.
Being a woman and that too an Indian woman, I have been brought up in an evironment where women are treated second-class. However, I am lucky that I was an exception to this maltreatment. My parents raised me with dignity, love, affection and I enjoy all the fruits of my parents hardwork, love and care as much as my brother. Still, everyone or every woman in INDIA is not as lucky. There are women in this country who have not seen light at the other side of the corner. There are unfortunate women who have not stepped out of the confines of their homes, or have not been allowed to step out of their homes, their life is a life of agony, mistrust, depravity, and only loyalty to their family. The outside world is a stranger to them, as much as a foreign land. Yes, this is very true, if you go deep into my INDIA, you will find such glaring examples of discrimination against women. Where women are meant to be an item of decoration, child-bearing machine.There are a few temples in S outh India where women are denied entry. Can you imagine? Woman is that creation of GOD who is a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, and a companion you can easily bank upon. There is so much dicrimination prevalent that few women are forced to die young, few are killed in their mother's womb, few confined to their homes, and few are forced to sell their skin to earn bread for their family. Female infanticide cases are highest in India-- a place that once worshipped its women as Goddesses. A woman when comes to her utmost strength can break away all barriers and become a DURGA to break the shackles of agony, pain and misery. A woman can be a savior.
So, lets come to the real topic now. Do women need reservation? I mean do we need to say that we need a place equal to men. What can we gain by reservation? A few seats here and there, but what about the rule of equality. Males and female are born to be equal. Lets shun this fact that males are born to dominate. Males need to understand that without women their train of life would come to a halt. In fact, the entire life on earth would stop. God never sent us for this. Did He? No, not at all. Then why are we distinguishing between men and women. I think there should be no reservation, however, it should become a rule of law that equality prevails, with males and females on equal parameters. The fairer sex does not need reservation for marking its presence. Females, when got opportunities have shown that they are no less than males. Then, why such discrimination? Lets give our women equal opportunities as males. Lets not say that so and so seat is reserved for women, beyond which women cannot make entry. We have to break the shackles bounding us and not bound ourselves further in chains. If we are today fighting for mere 33% reservation,, and trust me Indian women are fighting very hard for this, then we will close all doors for us thereafter, for further enhancement in our power.
We do not need merely 33% reservation. We need to be at par with males, no matter what.

Thanks for ur views Ratna. Yes, there has been quite a considerable improvement, however, women continue to suffer in general. You must have been witness to such discrimintaion, I am sure. Isn't it? You must have seen it.
If you ask me i would say the entire "Reservation issue is only degrading'. It means that woman are inferior to men and need to be taken care of. Ans in my opinion woman are in everyway equal and if not better than men. At the same time when you have brought this topic of 'reservation' i strongly oppose the reservation for SC, ST and the socalled backwardclass. They have reservation available everywhere , even in feilds like education and jobs which should strictly be on a merit basis only.
Interesting article...it is funny how women have to fight for 33% of something that is supposed to represent the entire country...Women and men are created equal though different and deserve fair treatment in any situation. We should be appreciated for our differences not condemned for them!
I can understand what women are going through but let me inform there is a religion which gives more rights to women than men but the most unfortunate thing lies that the religion has been mislead by media of western world because of some of their gains and say women are being deprived in the same religion and that religion is Islam. A muslim girl who has certain level of intellectual and wisdom is proud of being Muslim and accepts all wat she has been directed and are proud of their religion.One can cheque the authentic books of Islam. If u feel my comments are undigestable and u feel islam degrages women, ask me any question regarding the topic and love to answer and i offer all of you to challenge me if i hv been wrong in my statement or anyone hving misconceptions regardign Islam favouring women i am ready to answer.

Dear Gowher, it is so nice of you to share your views on this hub. If the facts and the information you have provided here are correct,we should be really pleased with that. As the scenario today is so bad that we are made to misinterpret as sacred a religion as Islam. However, if the Muslim women are really liberated from the chains of seclusion and isloation and discrimination, it is a thing to feel proud of. Still, what we have seen in reality talks of something else. Yes, u r very right that the educated Muslim women are liberated from the abovementioned ills of society, but what about those unlucky ones who could not reach that level because of the same discrimination that secluded them from society and the so-called benefits that would have enabled them to scale higher heights.
Instead, I wish for a world where everyone will be treated at par and women, once treated as Goddess Lakshmi in my India, will again live a life without any tension and travails. I wish no woman or for that matter no human has to suffer.
Let everyone be happy and peace prevail on earth.
i agree that in olden days women has really a very less opportunities .but in this era it become little bit better.so wat i wana say to every women in india is strive for ur success u can do any thing better then male no one is there to stop u.........all the best

I partially agree with the testimony's and the articles mentioned above. If you think the women are really lagging behind provide them more faculty in colleges and give some financial help. Whats the need of giving reservation?
My personal experience is : I am a student who got a rank of 900 in some competitive exam and a girl of SC with 26,000 rank. We both were in the same college, and she is not adjusted with the teachings going on and she at last attempted to suicide. Do you think that she really benefited from reservation.
If you are providing reservation to the women, it indirectly shows that they are not capable of reaching the men's knowledge that's why you are pre alloting the seats. It creates a feeling in both the men and women that women are having less knowledge than the men. When such a feeling rises in the mind they always underestimate themselves though they are capable of reaching the men.
Nowadays you can see many love marriages with out the permission of parents and some with partial agreement of parents. All this increased when they are given more freedom. Our Indian culture is ruining.
Inter cast marriages are apparent common these days. Mostly parents will not accept such marriages, and the couple are suffering for that. You may ask that why are you worrying about the cast's? When the government itself showing that there are some backward cast's and scheduled cast's by giving them reservation, they are indirectly creating a feeling that OC are higher cast than some cast's.
