Do you have a nice shower, but no place to sit in it?  I have a great shower in terms of size, but no built-in seat whatsoever, which I find annoying.  I had major surgery early this year and a somewhat minor surgery a couple of weeks ago and found that I really needed to have a place to sit while in the shower, whether it was to sit and wash or to take a break or to shave – having a shower bench made my life so much easier.  Even when not recovering from surgery, the shower seat remains in the shower and is used by my husband and I, it just makes the showering experience more comfortable.

A shower bench or seat is a must have for anyone who has difficulty standing for long periods of time or other mobility issues, or for the elderly or someone with a handicap.

If space is limited, consider a folding shower seat which is lightweight and can easily be put in place when needed, then folded up and tucked away when done.

Shower seats come in a variety of materials, such as stainless steel, plastic, wood, teak. While plastic is water resistant, a seat or bench of teak can add elegance to your shower. Teak is a tropical wood that naturally resists mold, mildew and bacteria.

Things to consider when shopping for a shower seat are whether the legs are adjustable – this is not necessary, but a nice bonus – and always check how much weight it can hold; most bench seats can hold up to around 250-300 pounds.

A good seat can add to your comfort for years to come. Find some great, economical options below from Amazon, a premier online retailer. Many of the following shower seats received very good reviews from people who have purchased and used them.

Funny you should write this hub today. My back has been persnippity lately and it's been hard to shave my legs in the shower. So I took my husbands plastic tool box that's also a step bench in the shower yesterday for a place to sit. It worked buy it wasn't very comfortable (and I had to wash it first.) This is a much better idea. I had forgotten these things exist.

It's a great idea to have a bench or water-proof chair in the shower, if you have room. Helps avoid falling accidents. Keep up the good work. I love your links. Don White
