The Mighty Fed's Road to Greatness

Updated on June 12, 2009

Roger Federer's road to Greatness

Roger Federer, is he now the greatest tennis player of all time?

After winning the elusive French Open title, he was hailed as the greatest who ever played the game.

Some will say no, some will say "you can't compare different era", but one thing is certain more will say yes. There is no doubt of his greatness now that he has captured all surfaces. The man is a genius on court. Most players emulate him but no one comes close (yet). They may be able to execute his moves from backhand, forehand, topspin, slice, drop shot or swing but they can never match his confidence and his graciousness on court. Emotional and gracious in defeat and humble in triumph. Just the kind of player we want our kids to watch and emulate.

The humble Swiss star's win over  Robin Soderling at the French Open 6-1, 7-6, 6-4 has made him just the 6th man to win all four major and he has now tied Sampras's record of 14 grand slams. I don't think it is arguable as to who is the greatest (that is, until someone will come along and surpassed his record) . I think he made it clear that day and with 59 titles in his name he's still very much the man to beat. It's always a pleasure to watch him play and most especially watch him win. He has broken records after records along the way.
