A Chill In The Air
Down The Back Of My Spine
A reminder that summer is leaving us and another season is taking over
Changing positions in with the relief pitcher when their team is down two to nothing
The direction of the game or this time the weather has taken a turn for a noticable difference
You might see a sudden change to the way it was but more often than not it keeps going further in the opposite direction
Reaching for a light jacket or even a sweatshirt
Feeling the same warmth from that blanket you tuck under at night
You see the leaves falling off the trees like popcorn in a popcorn popper
A little here a little there but everywhere you look a little more than before
The sky turns darker earlier and it feels like the world is closing in
Less time for daylight activities and all the outdoor fun
A time when we spend more time in the house staring at the t.v. and the computer as if they were filling the void
The emptiness that we have lost in the beauty of nature
What once was colorful and vibrant has become dormant and some what barren
Our minds are falling the same beaten path
A constant lack of energy as our bodies show emmenant signs
Our minds quickly searching for an answer
Coming up with a solution by turning to comfort foods to settle the growing termoil
Filling our bodies with warm soups an stews to pacify the inner child
As the heat of the sun is cooled off by a cross breeze that makes you sneeze
Could this be another sign
That colds and flu go frolicing by hand and hand
We slowly turn the knob in our cars from air conditioner to heat without notice
With the windows rolled up and the blast of a warm current of air hitting us in the face and chest
Almost accepting the unenevitable
Motionless as no words come out
Just another sigh as we take an early afternoon nap
Wondering how soon will it be with the air conditioners just taken out of the windows
Before the dial on the thermistat is turned up from off to 68 to 72 degrees
With more days of rain and the winter clothes boxes dusted off and opened
Trading in the bathingsuits, shorts and tank tops
Unpacking the winter thermals and the flannel sheets
Seeing the long shirts and sweaters fill the closets
The long pants and jackets fill up the extra space at the bottom
Now it is time to face the facts
Summer has left us and it won't be long before old man winter raises his head
