A Literary Snob
Say It's Not True!
I don't want to be a literary snob,
Doomed to sit on my hands and pitifully sob...
I want to be open to individual expression,
Gleaning content beyond critic's repression...
But if truth be told, there are certain pet peeves
that shadow my vision, when my resolve, thus, then leaves.
The critic within, with an editor's eye
Yearns for red ink to correct and defy...
Thus missing the message of purest intent,
Caught up in language that's twisted or bent.
Structure and grammar and spelling define
The vintage and taste of my literature wine.
When the message dissolves in the messenger's fare,
It's lost to this critic, who, then, quits in despair.
I hate that its true, thus, regrettably sob...
I fear I am none but a literary snob!
