Isn't It Romantic

LVI.

Heady scent of new mown hay,

Glittered by a glowing harvest moon.

Excites, intoxicates. awakes,

~ As her heart quakes.

Young passion's bloom,

Rising to attention

Out of languorous, luminous

Indian summer day.

Moments filled with

Shimmering, enclosing, wondrous

Romantic tension, ~

Never to be forgotten.

Isn't It Romantic - from "Sabrina" with Audrey Hepburn

Let's run away,

Hide from all else

But each other -

To talk and hug,

To Be

In odd, unique

Harmony ~

Beyond the din.

Harvest Moon
Harvest Moon

"Baby", he whispers,

Almost inaudibly

So as to not offend -

"I want you,

Can you understand?"

Of course I can!

It hovers in the air,

Fills it everywhere,

Fills me ~

A deluge,

A refuge.

Here

To share,

To dare to be.

Undercurrents run deep,

Both pristine and tarnished.

Moments

Cloud the clearest sky

Where you and I

Have stood

Facing,

Testing,

Challenging,

Clashing.

Yet here we are this day

So good together!

So warm together.

Your heart has

Many layers,

Has been in

Many lairs,

And laid a few.

If I could see you

Without them,

It might discomfort you

If you need them more.

Yet more would be

To be free to love

Unconditionally.

It is the best reward.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Your nearness

Even when apart

Feels like love to me.

Distance dissolves

When the heart

Touches another's heartstrings.

Whispering love-words

Not wasted

On the breeze and trees.

They leapt to where you are;

They tasted

Your essence.

There you are!

Nestling here

In my inner ear!

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

For you

Alone

You said, -

Words meant for

Only you,

For no one else,

Just you.

Will these do?

Or must I

Dissect my

Heart and soul,

Lay down

My inmost

Being

For your view?

I need to be

Perceived!

Do you ~ ~

Perceive me?

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Sunbeams still seek

Your satin cheek

To kiss.

Smiles still chase

The gloom

From an empty room

Like this.

A playful breeze

Still looks for

Silver hair to tease.

And in your heart

There's still a place

For powerful yearnings

And I am still here

To fill them.

My Love - Diana Krall

The comfort in it is

I have been this way before,

Experienced momentum felt

As standing still,

Inertia felt

As dynamic pulse,

Been drawn from out

The bowels of life,

Insight, deepened

'Neath the surface,

Dissolving superficials,

Leaving comfort as the keynote

Throughout each overture,

Drawing it together,

Yet, apart.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

When I reach into

My memory trove

of all my love

And find

An image,

Scent or

Sound ~

It's always yours.

You know who

You are.

And so do I.

I may find new love -

Or I may not.

And either way is good ~

Because of you.

The poetry, the drawings, the pictures, the videos - it is all so enchanting, Nellieanna, I find it hard to dwell on just one aspect. So I will simply say I loved it all and particularly these words:

"Sunbeams still seek

Your satin cheek

To kiss.

Smiles still chase

The gloom

From an empty room

Like this."

Absolutely beautiful and rated up.

Nellieanna,

These were wonderful. The pictures, the videos and especially the words. All well illustrated and presented with an artists brush and the song of words! :)

As always, Nellieanna, your beautiful words are perfectly complemented by sublimely chosen pictures and videos.

Some day your hubs are going to be strung together by a divine jeweller into one of the most exquisite "strings of pearls" ever produced.

They deserve no less.

Thank you.

How very, very you. There is a subtle mystery, a lusciousness, a sweet indolence (I wish I hadn't said that... I could have used "sweet indolence" in a poem) that says, "Nellie, the true poetess , a gem of great worth".

I loved it, Thank you.

"There you are!

Nestling here

In my inner ear!"

How delicious!

Nellieanna, I have missed you lately so I was delighted to find this beautiful hub. Everything about it is perfect, the singing, etchings, pictures and most especially the words. I like your definition about unconditional love.

Christopheranton - dear man. Your words make me smile and almost gloat. What a spectacular metaphor. I love pearls. For my poetry to be compared to them is a thrill! Thank you for reading and liking my words! Hug you!

Ian, m'dear! You're wonderful, but I feel selfish, receiving your clever phrase for my very self. (You have my permission to use it in a poem, though,to prove that I'm not totally selfish.)

Well, I guess I'm always at least a little sweet and I must admit to an indolent mode these days - the pendulum retreat from all that hard mental work on taxes, no doubt; or maybe it's my true nature! heh heh. (it is a bit typical of Aquarians.) Thank you for the fun and delight of your comments! Hug, hug.

Gerry! I was just thinking about you and wondering how you are! Going back and forth to my profile page to get a new comment window to write in, I noticed the reference to that lovely hub about our conversations you wrote & it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I'm happy to see you, but not about your keypad (and other unmentioned) glitches. OK. Is there something sacred about that keypad? Maybe it's time for a new one? Yes, it seems craziness is too persistent lately. My decree is that it has to improve!

Thank you for the visit and lovely comments about my hub! Hugs.

I'll bet you didn't know that Alfalfa sang "Isn't It Romantic" in one of their movies! It was pretty scratchy on u-tube, so I didn't use it for the theme song here, but I was amazed to find it! And then I realized that "Alfie" in Bacharach's "What's It All About, Alfie" and possibly in the movie for which he wrote the song, was at least partly inspired by Alfalfa! Those little rascals were still around when I was a kid. hehe. Good luck with Best Buy and better equipment! (I'm so proud to be able to read that scratching! hehe)

When I was in the eighth grade my English teacher told me I was in love with "love." I think you are too.

And how delightful is this:

"Sunbeams still seek

I was raised on a ranch so the scent of alfalfa holds a myriad of memories for me. Thanks for this collection; it took me places.

Patricia, I think you may be right! Believe it or not, but I've written a lot of poetry not about love, but I'm amazed how often love prompts my pen! So - we have a rural background in common. On the ranch where I grew up, though - there were no tillable fields. The alfalfa came in later, when we also had an irrigated farm in a little more verdant area. That alfalfa is among my most fragrant memories - and I'm very attracted to lovely fragrances, including fine perfumes. But it's hard to beat freshness, isn't' it? My favorite fragrance on a man is fresh air and sunshine!

Thank you for the lovely comments!

OK I'm back Nellieanna with my brand new keypad which I am trying for the first time in this comment. What a terrific relief after days of crippling composition. The game got old fast. From Sabrina to Dianna Krall - I am enthralled.

Welcome back to the "show that never ends". You have been sorely missed. Your poetry is wonderful. Hugs, Gerry

Nellieanna profile image

Thank you, Nikki! - - I'm pleased you liked that! Yes, the alfalfa and moonlight were memorable experiences I got to enjoy early every fall for several years of my early teens. Hugs.

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

Oh, Gerry - I'm so glad for you. There is nothing worse than a hopeless piece of equipment. I'll "work around" a lot of glitches, even sort of get a kick out of figuring out a way to, but a key (didn't intend it as a pun, but it is one!) piece of equipment is just too horrible to tolerate. As you say - it gets "old fast"!

The reason I asked whether it were "sacred" is because one one of mine is actually a part of the system, not an interchangeable keypad. If it goes haywire, it will have to be replaced as a part of the system.

Well, YOU've been sorely missed yourself, Gerry. My absence was only partial and not for very long. I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the poetry and music. "Sabrina" is a favorite of mine and I've become a new fan of Diana Krall. She virtually makes love to a song.

Oh Nellieanna- Very Punny indeed! Business rules my waking hours and even my dreams. Progress is slow and deliberate and Lee lays on a gurney in a queue waiting for emergency surgery in Dublin. Can you imagine anything like that in the good ol' USA?

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

OH WOW, Gerry. Progress being so slow must be exhausting as well as at times exhilarating, no doubt. When one is infused with purpose and determination, that is quite a force.

Visualizing Lee having to wait in a queue for "emergency" surgery is almost unimaginable and truly shocking. I hope and pray it comes soon for him.

Nellieanna, what a delight! I strangely felt that it is about many things we have talked about recently. Love, unconditional love...

But this took me in a different direction:

"Inertia felt

As dynamic pulse,

Been drawn from out

The bowels of life,"

I feel that "bowels of life" have overflown my capacity to deal with it and all I feel is "inertia" without a pulse.

I love the way you write. Unconditionally.

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

Svetlana - I'm really glad to see you. We haven't had much chance to converse in a day or so. But certainly many things we've talked about are interwoven into this selection because they're also woven into my being.

Now I hope that your dynamic pulse is only temporarily still; it would be a terrible loss for it to be inert for very long!

Thank you for your very cherished compliments! Hugs.

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

MPG - greetings! Yes, I've loved Audrey Hepburn since she first appeared in American movies. She was just three years older than I, and at the time, people commented that I looked a lot like her. Of course, to a young college girl like I was, this was very flattering. She made "Roman Holiday" in 1953, the year I graduated and "Sabrina" a year later.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I need to get myself back into writing more. Seems I'm doing more of it one-on-one these days! Hope you've been pleasantly occupied when busy and away!

Thank you, dear friend. It does my own heart good to re-read some of these poems of romance and young love. The setting of the aroma from the freshly-mown alfalfa field and glow of the harvest moon is among my sweet remembrances from long ago. I was with my first love at my Dad's farm and it was truly an 'enchanted evening'. Ah - we were so young!

Ah dear Nellieanna.

I chose to wander through your poems

And found these jewels aglow.

These lovely words enshrouded me,

True romance through them flows.

An artist with the poet's pen

Who's verse uplifts my heart.

You are the reason I'm still here,

You inspired me from the start.

"Best Poet" this year I received

I dedicate to you,

My writing floundered hopelessly

In my heart I know that's true,

But you saw promise in my work

Despite my many flaws.

That is why I'm here today

A poet with a cause.

Thank you for being you. These poems, images and video are wonderful. Voted up and shared. See, I told you I'd visit some of your earlier hubs.. :)

Nellieanna profile image

Dear Jodah- what a delight to be drawn here by your lovely comments. The hub is a very nostalgic one for me, full of poignant memories. Then the comments which were many back over 3 years when this hub was published in April, 2011. - Ah, many memories among them, as well. So many of these dear Hubbers are no longer active on HP, in fact. Some, with whom I still interact. Some who have gone on to do other things. Yes, it made me rather nostalgic. So thank you all the more for being good for your word to visit some of my earlier hubs! Hugs!

And - AH! Here is your lovely comment, my friend! Thank you for the precious poem. It touches my heart deeply.

But no way can I take credit for any of your outstanding work other than just offering some encouragement when you had all but given up with Hubpages. How gratifying to give a little boost to someone who ‘takes it and runs with it’ so well! It was a little while after you got back into the swing of writing mostly great articles before you really began to share your outstanding poetry, which really pleased me and which has now it’s distinguished you as Best Poet of the Year, an honor fully earned and deserved! How proud of you I am! What a tragedy it would have been had you stopped writing and sharing! Your several hundred quite enthusiastic followers would have been deprived, - I being one of them!

Hi, Vicki. Alas. Before Hubpages, I spent more time on my own website, which is quite extensive and it's all my own doing in every way, built from scratch.

I still give it a few regular nods, but seems that sometimes my attention-priorites shift. Seldom staying up all night creating new pages as I once did frequently. Same with hubs for awhile now.
