Behind Holy Walls
Updated on September 20, 2012
Upon the cross reflecting the light forgiveness began its existence
Withering disapproval from the dark heavens belied the message
Free will was suspended and in its place the body was sacrificed
From that moment mankind became the implement of presage
The suspension of true understanding is the price for zealotry
The legacy of martyrdom is now justification for judgment
Invisible strings tied to nerve endings are directed by spirits of light
The star we fail to see at birth knows who will rebel and who will repent
Bruised knees and long verses of praise in the town square
Sin filled nights and questions of truth with eyes so clear
For whom will the gates open when equality of weakness is all that we know
And who built the walls that appear to rise before us each year?
There is no gift that I possess that will unwrap certainty
No witness to a peculiar vision can leaven a mind that is already free
The lamb is known to me and still I walk on God-forsaken streets
While my fingernails scrape the walls built by those who will not let me be
