The frost killed all my flowers and tomato plants, so everything looks ugly outside, except my two little squirrels who live in my tree in the front. I can sit in my kitchen and watch them play. I feed them pecans and peanuts. The only birds left are sparrows..Hurry up spring...

The Examiner-1 profile image

It is sunny here too, but it was 28 last night and will be again tonight. It is slowly going up a little by the end of the week and then I believe it goes down again. What is winter other than Christmas and New Years?

Kevin

always exploring profile image

always exploring 24 months ago from Southern Illinois Author

I think it was colder here this morning, when I opened the door the cold air was stinging, but I just now put a ladybug outside and the frost was gone and it felt a little warmer. The ten day forcast is calling for 40's in the day and down in the 20's at night. Still saying, " Hurry up spring. " Yes, it will soon be 2015..Happy New Year Kevin....

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 24 months ago

I know Ruby, it is always colder in the morning than the night before. It does not get light for 1-2 hrs. after I start breakfast. Outside is warmer than inside. I want to crawl back under a blanket (lol) and stay there until spring, but I cannot.

I do not believe the 10 day forecast even 1 day can change. Take a day they say it is full sun all day and suddenly it turns cloudy.

Happy New Year?! It is not even Christmas yet - this year is not over!

Kevin

always exploring profile image

always exploring 24 months ago from Southern Illinois Author

Kevin, I had a happy surprise yesterday, it was 60 here! I spent most of the day driving and feeling the sun, and no, you can't depend on the forecast. It is cloudy today and I'm making a big pot of chili, and you're correct, the year is not over. lol..

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 24 months ago

The weather here seemed to be what they said, sunny and 60*. I made popcorn with Crisco but I think I made too much. Some ended up on the floor and all over the stove top because the lid was pushed open by itself. (Oops, lol) I think that I will try olive oil next time and less popcorn.

Kevin

always exploring profile image

always exploring 24 months ago from Southern Illinois Author

Hello Kevin. It is cloudy here today and warmer in the 50's. I have one of those microwave poppers. I just spray a fat free butter-like spray in the bottom and sides, then put about a half cup of popcorn in, a little salt, then put it in the micro and punch popcorn, it only takes a short time, and it's a good fat free treat. I bought the plastic popper container at Walmart for around 3 dollars. Have a good day....

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 24 months ago

Good afternoon Ruby. It is sunny here and the high was 61*. I do not use microwaves, I have never used them, due to some safety reasons. Besides, at the present I could not afford one. I am thinking of putting butter (organic) on the popcorn and sprinkling with Parmesan cheese powder.

Kevin

always exploring profile image

always exploring 24 months ago from Southern Illinois Author

Kevin, I'm sorry to hear you can't afford a popper, sometimes I do wonder if microwaves are good to use. I know another person who will not use one either. The parmesan cheese powder would taste good on popcorn. I'm sorry to report that it is raining and cold here today. I am baking turkey legs in my oven and a baked potato, sounds good? I bought organic spinach for a salad. Have a good day.

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 24 months ago

I rechecked again Ruby since I was curious. Besides drying out foods and other cooking problems, there is leaching, carcinogenic, connections with cancer. They also recommend using glass instead of plastic since the microwaves melt plastic into the food.

I put some butter and parmesan on popcorn in a small container to see if it melts in 24 hours. My brother took me food shopping today and I got olive oil to try next time.

It is warm and partly sunny here right now. There are supposed to be light showers overnight at 1 or 2 AM to about 8 AM and partly sunny tomorrow.

I threw together a turkey cold cut sandwich before I went shopping and grabbed a few other things to put inside me. I have spinach in my salad.

You have a nice day too.

Kevin

I spent the day yesterday at the hospital with a friend, so I'm late responding. I never use plastic in the microwave and I don't cook anything in it, I just use it to warm up food and pop corn. When I first began to use it, I tried cooking hamburgers , but they dried out and was like rubber. It was a nice day here yesterday. I think it will be nice again today, in the 40's-50's. I didn't touch my email yesterday so I will have double today. Take care and have a nice day...

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 24 months ago

When I began the first sentence I thought you were going to say you had been in the hospital with something, until I read "with a friend". I do not expect replies immediately, I have been busy the last two days and my email has been backed up for a while.

Even warming food in plastic might not be good, they did not clarify but it is probably combined. Chemicals seep out of plastic containers even in the fridge.

It is warm here days, and even nights, for December but I am not arguing. This house just holds the coldest temps for some time and it is colder inside than outside, brrr.

I hope that you have a nice day!

Kevin

I use glass dishes to warm up food, of course they must be strong and say that they are microwave safe. Today I made a stir-fry dish of cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, carrots, ham and feft over turkey and it was really good. I added a little salt and butter, plus two packets of splinda. I like to eat healthy. The day is gloomy, no sun. I want to write something but my muse is on vacation. lol...Have a nice day..

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 24 months ago

Hi Ruby, that dish sounds good. Did you mean splinda or Splenda? I like to eat healthy too - maybe you should throw that in the freezer and save it for Christmas. Here it was partly to mostly cloudy all day and I started making supper at 4 PM while it is still light. Tonight I closed the blinds at 4:30 instead of 5:30, on went the lights. Oh, well.

Kevin

always exploring profile image

always exploring 23 months ago from Southern Illinois Author

Hello Kevin, yes I meant splenda. That dish is almost gone. I don't make a lot at one time.. It is beautiful here today, bright sunshine and in the 40's. It usually gets dark here about six o'clock. Take care. Have a nice weekend...

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 23 months ago

Hi Ruby, I stopped using artificial sweeteners a while ago. I made more popcorn in the olive oil and it was okay. I tried putting the Parmesan in the pan but it did not stick. Today was not well due to malware and gloomy, rainy weather. Tomorrow may be the same - minus the malware. The nights are low 40's this weekend. After tomorrow days get longer again.

Hi Kevin. It has been sunny all day but cold. I spent the day writing a hub about my grandma and grandpa. I still have my PJ'S on. I like to do that sometime. There was only a little thunder at 8 this morning, Ruby, and hardly even any showers. It dawned on me though that the outside temp. does not matter. As long as the temp. keeps fluctuating it stays cold inside this house.

The sun has been so bright all day and it's not too cold, but on Wednesday it's supposed to be 10, no-no Burr. I've been meaning to ask you why you stopped using splenda? See ya...

The Examiner-1 profile image

The Examiner-1 23 months ago

The sun was bright today here also but it was windy and it is a l-l-low of 29 tonight. In a couple of nights it will be 16, brrr.

About the Splenda. I read something that made me do research and I found out all artificial sweeteners were made from sugar. I just gave up sugar. They also were health hazards - one being various types of cancer.

Bye for now, Kevin

always exploring profile image

always exploring 23 months ago from Southern Illinois Author

We had a day just like yesterday, but tomorrow is the BIG one coming in. Sugar is not good for you, but occasionally I crave something sweet, so splenda has fewer calories, that's why I use it. Stay warm and take care..

I do not know about you but down here, according to the radio, we are being hit with the "arctic hammer". Tomorrow's high is 38 and tomorrow night is 14, with winds in both. Thursday it starts creeping back up again.

When I want something sweet I use honey, molasses or sweet fruit/vegetables.
