Debussy: St. Sebastian, A Singer's Odyssey
I sang the blue of sadness in the chromaticism of tears,
and the purple of mysticism veiled in passion’s mist.
I sang the mellowed honey of the lost mother
and of babe remembered.
I sang the white hot of godhead
in praises of searing alleluias
as arrows pierced skin anew.
I sang the mystical soul
of St. Sebastian
as he danced the loneliness of sacrifice,
and beheld the open door.
