ETERNAL PATTERNS
By: Wayne Brown
Billowing white clouds merge in a clear blue strain
Gathering in their moisture to bring some rain
The pattern repeats itself time upon time
Like moonshine at night and the day’s sunshine
Rain drops dripping on puddles of watery glass
Rippling water circles roll out from the splash
The pattern repeats itself time and again
Like the tide goes out then comes back in
Cold rain water pours down on a dry creek bed
Washing about the sands as the land is fed
The pattern repeats itself for time on end
Though it be dry now, the rains will come again
The gray of winter casts in shadow over summer rays
Draping a blanket of cold for days upon days
The pattern repeats itself with each coming season
Mother Nature is silent; she has her reasons
An ultra-light spirit with tiny flittering wings
Nips at the nectars of the flowers in spring
The pattern repeats itself as God so desires
To carry the precious pollens and ignite life’s fires
A tear-stained face finds a smile to replace the frown
Sadness occurs but happiness always comes around
The pattern repeats itself always coming back to smiles
It’s just our human nature as we cover life’s miles
A new born child cries for a proud new mom and dad
An old man passes in silence; loved ones by his bed
The pattern repeats itself over the cycle of life’s span
God’s gift of precious life and the mortality of man
