Book Review of Year Zero: A Novel by Rob Reid
It's been a while since I've read a good book.
I'm always looking around for the next good book. And the other day I found it after I finished reading this book. A little more about me as far as my taste in books for me to say that this book is a good read. My selection of authors range from Steven King to Chuck Palahniuk. I was almost discouraged by the cover thinking that it was about Napster and how it changed the music industry. Again never judge a book by it's cover. Thank god I just didn't over look this one because of the cover. I want to give a short review of this book and hopefully you'll love this book as much as I did when you read it.
Year Zero: A Novel by Rob Reid
Aliens suck at music.
Aliens suck at music are the first words you read on the page. So after getting past the cover and reading a little of the book summary of the book I found it wasn't some documentary type book on Napster. Although this book gets heavy into the laws of file downloading. In a sense this book has the feeling of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. And if you have never read that book you should. This books humor is with our current events and celebrities. Although that might date the book in a few years I still believe this book will be just as good in the future. If your a fan of music then you will really love this book for what it is! So many references to awesome bands like Metallica, Guns n' Roses, and Black Sabbath. I'm not giving to much away because the first lines of the book state exactly what the book is about. The plot of the story is just the topping of the cake but the humor in this book is priceless.
The main character in this book is Nick Carter and no not the Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys. We follow him on an adventure involving aliens that love our music keeping tabs on our ever growing music. I really recommend this book highly. And again I don't want to give too much away on this book because it's worth reading!
A little about the Author Rob Reid.
So normally after reading a book as good as this I do a little home work on the Author. I want to see what else he has written. I really hope he continues to write more books in this fashion. Because he has a sense of humor in his writing that is whitty and funny on top of that. From what I found on him was that he was the founder of a website called listen.com that went to become Rhapsody a type of music download site. Personally I've never used this site but I have heard of it over the years. But given that the author has a music type business he gives so much more details than you normally wouldn't think of. And even after doing a little more digging on Rob Reid I found he also did a Ted Talk that you can watch here The 8 billion ipod . Even in his Ted Talk you can hear his sense of humor in him. And for those of you who have never heard of Ted Talks I highly recommend you dig around that site for more awesome speakers.
Final words
I hope that you will give this book a chance and read it. If you enjoy a good book with humor then you really should read this book. It is a Sci-fi book on top of that if your into aliens and distant planets. And if you read this book please leave a comment and let me know what you think! Or am I the only one that found this book as good as I did. I hope that's not the case in the end. And if this book is as good as I think it is Hollywood will be picking this up and making a movie of it in some near future. But just like they always do they probably would butcher a good thing. So run to your local library and ask for this book!
