Five Poems
Introduction
These five poems are all thirty plus years old. I wrote them when I was in high school ... and I am now fifty-three years old! So perhaps you'll be willing to excuse a bit of melodrama and angst. Sometimes, not much changes from generation to generation, and hopefully you'll not only be able to "cut me some slack" but also, to relate!
Cusp
She's a grown up
girl child now -
almost -
although she still leaves
her teddy bear
and rag doll
to save her place
in her bed at home
when she goes out
at night.
Individuality
Before ever beginning
To understand
Individuals
One first
Must learn
Individuality.
Raindrop War
At two in the morning
the pounding of raindrops
beneath the street light
draw my attention.
Like little armies of minute soldiers
they hurry and scatter,
yet hold a queer formation
so late at light
under the street light,
and I am the supreme witness
to their war.
Abstract
I introduced my yesterday
To my today
And found them
Incompatible.
I introduced my tomorrow
To before
And we all became best friends.
Abstract, I think
Flavors my moments
And my hours
Are lazy too.
My plans -
Perfect
With all that won't go wrong
Waiting
To happen.
One Small Opinion
I wonder what the world would do
If I were gone.
Would it miss me?
Want to kiss me?
Mourn and wish me back again?
Would it regret the harsh things it had done to me?
Would it recall the cruel words said to me when I was small?
Of course I know, one or two
A small few would miss me,
But what about the rest?
Of course not.
I'm nobody.
