I Am Back At My Favorite Fishing Spot

It Is One Secret I Can't Let You Know

I have come here with one thought in mind to catch the biggest fish I can find

I have brought my favorite fishing rod and I have enough bait to catch plenty

I have a bucket to fill and the day to unwind with such a wonderful pasttime

Some call it a hobby some call it a sport I call it a place where my mind can flirt

I watch the sun come up and later it radiates high in the sky

I feel the bugs bite me where the sun never shines

I watch the wind blow across the water which causes the weeds to shake

I hear all the sounds of nature vibrate their own special tune

I wait and watch and hope the fish will bite

I think of the stories I will tell of my greatest catch

How I was eating half of my sandwich and not expecting it and of all of a sudden I knew it could only mean one thing

I have a fish the most wonderful fish I have ever seen

In that moment it felt real when my day dream passed my mind mainstream

As I take another bite and the line still lays limp as I reel in very slow

My fondess passion and greatest love to catch nature and put it in my open hand

I check my tackle box and fix my gear

I look at all my different hooks in their own special place

My trusty knife ready to slice

My box of bait slowly begins to disappear

Some nibbles and as I real in my empty hook

Another fish got a sample of the goodies that I have for them

I watch the hours pass and finally have to put my rod down

I have to take a quick intermission as nature calls

Now with my bladder empty and washing my hands in the cold water

I shake my hands for a quick dry

As my box of bait goes empty

I give that famous look of astonishment and surprise

Where could all the fish be ?

I was sure this was my day

Let me go through my check list

I came out here early

I was full of pep and energy with all the eagerness to match

I came here unnoticed

Careful not to give my hot spot away

I brought a series of snacks to hold me over just in case I HAD NO TIME TO EAT

I also brought some drinks to keep my thirst quenched under the heat

There were times I nodded off but I was always holding my rod secure

Dreaming of the talking fish that asked to be let go

When he knew I was the best fisherman he has ever seen and he has met his match

Looking down at my feet where I carve a hole in the dirt with the front of my sneaker

Pressing and digging with great pride

It was a gorgeous day and all the conditons were right

I have been thinking all day

Not a moment went by that one of my thoughts couldn't be heard

As I packed up all my gear and reeled in my line for the final time

A thought just crossed my mind

I am off tomorrow and this is the place to be

Where I can catch everything that there is to catch

With so many fish I can feed every neighbor all the way down the street

I will need more bait and I only lossed one hook today

It was a great day and it was a warm up to tomorrows spectacular adventure

I have to make sure I leave quietly and almost silent so know one can see me

It is almost dark and no one will know what direction I came from

I am sure they will ask

What will I tell them ?

I better watch my footing or I can fall and twist an ankle on the rocks

I am in the clearing and the woods are behind me now

I can't wait till tomorrow

I probably won't be able to sleep a wink tonight

I will have to pack another lunch and this time more snacks than before

All this fishing makes a grown man so hungry

Until next time when I am back fishing with my line ready

If you hear me yelling it will be the fish I caught

not that I had  tripped and fell in the water on a slippery rock.

With a husband who loves to fish and mostly catches old boots, coffee cups and dredge from down under, I really enjoyed this poem. I will share it with him. Wonderful story. Good writing.

Thank you!

Rhonda Waits They will have to settle for the canned stuff. The fresh fish are out there. They are just having fun playing a little hide and seek.I am here come and get me.Laughing as they swim by.Pixienot I thought I was the only one who caught that stuff.I once cast my line across the water to the other bank and got snagged on it.I missed the water completely. I think I hold the record for the most lost hooks.Darlene Sabella I am glad you could come.It was the best day ever.No peeking out the sides to see where you are. When we get there you will see the fish are practically jumping into our laps.Thank you so so much everyone.
